Historia
My name is Saraphina Proctor...and that’s the only thing I can remember. I woke up alone, surrounded by darkness with no memory. No one here knows who I am, I don’t fit any of the missing persons reports, and the doctors can’t find a single thing wrong with me…my memory…my life…they’re just…gone. But something lurks in the shadows in Salem, watching me…waiting.

cringe
Revisado: 03-26-25
I am in my 40s. This is written for children or maybe 18 year old girls. It starts out cringe when the moony love interest expresses his love at first sight for a 16 year old when he is hundreds of years old. I know she is older than that now but when he originally saw her. All the characters are embarrassing. I tried to hate listen but I could not. I am glad it was on sale because I would have hated to waste a credit. I rarely give bad reviews but this one... It should have said YA like just no.

So Cozy!
Revisado: 11-24-24
I saw this as a cozy fantasy recommendation and it did not disappoint. It was a happy escape from a scary world. I would like to go to an island filled with kind people and magical creatures. If you just want a low stakes beautiful world to escape into this is perfect .

Historia
In the northernmost reaches of Scotland, where a string of little islands in the North Sea stretches towards Norway, lives Gertie MacIntyre, a proud island girl by birth. Her social circle is small but tight: family and friends, particularly the women in her knitting circle. In the whitewashed cottages of their hometown, everyone knows everyone, and the ladies of the knitting circle know more than most. In a place of long dark winters and geographic isolation, the knitting circle is a precious source of gossip, home, laughter, and comfort for them all.

Jenny Colgan never disappoints
Revisado: 08-07-24
As usual, Jenny Colgan is the perfect escape. It is 100 degrees outside but I am just transported to a tiny Scottish island where all the people are lovely and the landscape is beautiful. I love the wholesome world that Jenny Colgan always creates.

Historia
For one bright, shining moment, Tybalt, King of Cats, had everything he had ever wanted. He was soon to set his crown aside; he had married the woman he loved; he was going to be a father. After centuries of searching for a family of his own, he had finally found a way to construct the life of his dreams, and was looking forward to a period of peace—or at least as much peace as is ever in the offing for the husband of a hero. Alas for Tybalt and his domestic aspirations, fate—and Titania—had other ideas.

Revisado: 11-04-23
It was a neat way to fully flesh out the previous story. I had questions about so much but this answered them. Tybalt is just so interesting. I wish Mary Robinette Kowal could have narrated it but it does make sense a man could do it. I think he did an excellent job.

Historia
October is very happy with her life as the second daughter of her pureblood parents, Amandine and Simon Torquill. Born to be the changeling handmaid to her beloved sister August, she spends her days working in her family’s tower, serving as August’s companion, and waiting for the day when her sister sets up a household of her own. Everything is right in October’s Faerie. Everything is perfect. Everything is a lie.

I love October Daye. I thought this book was a great way to see all the characters and their potential flaws and strengths. A what if. I now genuinely love Simon.

The Parents are the Worst
Revisado: 06-09-23
The main characters parents are so bad...They are evil. Like the mom is Disney villain bad. I cannot imagine living with parents those toxic. They are beyond emotionally abusive.
I love the Old Ducks. that is why I continued to slug through the novel.
I cannot imagine that anyone would consider this a dutiful daughter.

Historia
Back when restaurant menus were still printed on paper, and wearing a mask—or not—was a decision made mostly on Halloween, David Sedaris spent his time doing normal things. As Happy-Go-Lucky opens, he is learning to shoot guns with his sister, visiting muddy flea markets in Serbia, buying gummy worms to feed to ants, and telling his nonagenarian father wheelchair jokes. But then the pandemic hits, and like so many others, he’s stuck in lockdown, unable to tour and read for audiences, the part of his work he loves most.

Funny but Dark.
Revisado: 06-01-22
I loved this as all David Sedaris books. However, it is far darker than any other essay collection he has made to date. It works though because the world is dark and he has had personal upheaval.
If you are having a bad day and were expecting a laugh maybe wait until you are in a better mood. Far more disturbing and sad in places than any of his work so far.
But, he is David Sedaris one of my favorite writers and this was engrossing and entertaining from start to finish.

A delightful debut novel
Revisado: 06-10-20
I was so impressed with this book. It was such a nice escape from the real world. I couldn't stop listening. It is a good length..neither too short or too long. The story is complete at the end so could be stand alone but also I would be happy with a sequel. It is the perfect "beach read," Even if in 2020 nobody is going to the beach.

Interesting chapter
Revisado: 10-01-18
I liked this book. It was fun to check in on Matthew and Diana as well as Pheobe and Marcus. This narrator was just ok. I liked Jennifer Ikeda much more. I hope that in any future books they get her back. This lady is just OK. I would rather wait for Jennifer Ikeda rather than have a medium narrator.

Historia
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

Possibly his best.
Revisado: 06-10-18
I thought that this was possibly his most funny and poignant book to date. The book is laugh out loud funny while also being pretty dark in places. As usual, David Sedaris delivers as a narrator. The only downside is it is over too quickly.
