Historia
As a founding member of The Beach Boys, Mike Love has spent an extraordinary 55 years, and counting, as the group's lead singer and one of its principal lyricists. The Beach Boys, from their California roots to their international fame, are a unique American story - one of overnight success and age-defying longevity; of musical genius and reckless self-destruction; of spirituality, betrayal, and forgiveness - and Love is the only band member to be part of it each and every step.

Would you consider the audio edition of Good Vibrations to be better than the print version?
I have not read the print version, only the audiobook. I enjoyed the audio book because it's read by the author. That really makes it unique and special. Hearing this story straight from the author's mouth.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mike Love, it's his account, why not?
Which character – as performed by Mike Love – was your favorite?
Mike Love & Brian Wilson
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, if I could have.
Any additional comments?
This is a great account and perspective of Mike Love. For so many years you only hear pieces of information. You never know what is true and what is a story. I feel like this is an honest account of Mike Love. He really does love Brian. I think it's a shame that the false history has sort of made Mike a villain and Brian a saint. This is a must read. You will take something from it and may appreciate The Beach Boys even more.
I am a fan of Rock N' Roll. I have read all of the biographies. This is a true honest account that takes you on a journey. I highly recommend this book. I know Brian Wilson's book was just released "Again", so it would be great to read them back to back for a big picture.

Awesome! Hear Some LA Punk History From The People Who Created The Experience & Experienced The Experience
Revisado: 07-13-16
If you are reading this and remotely interested, or maybe you were a part of the beginning of the LA Punk Scene in the 70's or 80's, I highly recommend this well documented and amazing book. I grew up in Orange County California and was late to the scene. I remember the Anti-Club and Vinyl Fetish which are some of the places they talk about. Every story from each of the contributors packs a punch like the music and energy they created.
This is the best book of this genre I have read. You won't regret this book. You will love it.
Thanks to the Author and Contributors. This was an amazing experience.

If you Grew Up With Burt, This is a must
Revisado: 05-07-16
I am 41 years old. I grew up when Burt Reynolds was the King of Hollywood. He really pours his story out with honesty and sincerity.
He offers you a journey through his life of ups and downs. He's at heart an honest hard working man who seemed to have the best intentions. It was great to read his experiences with other kings and queens of Hollywood. Some that I dearly remember and now the world has forgotten.
This book brought back many memories of the 70s and 80s. He would tell the behind the scenes of people in his life like Sally Field to Lonnie Anderson. At the end, the narrator Burt him self gets emotional and at other times you hear his emotions come through. This is a story of a mans journey from beginning to end. The ups and downs and in the end his heart is in the same place as the beginning of his life.
The only negative is at first it was hard to hear old Burt Reynolds reading, he sounds so old and eventually you get used to his speech. I wouldn't want to hear it read by anyone else on the same token.
If you remember Burt when you were a kid and Smokey And The Bandit and Cannonball Run but don't know much about him. I recommend reading our listening to this. You will appreciate the people and stories of the time. You will know the man the legend Burt Reynolds.

I'm not the biggest Neil Young fan. I have the greatest hits and respect him but don't know a lot. Now after reading this book I'm interested in hearing more albums. I am a fan of Rock N Roll history and this is one of the best I have read. It's totally honest and off the cuff. He just wrote it himself. He has no set structure yet it works.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that even just knows of Neil Young. He's amazing and this book really shows a down to earth honest guy. I highly recommend this book.

Great first half! Sort of...
Revisado: 03-12-16
I read all of these rock 'n' roll era biographies. This was an interesting read. Or listen I should say. I would say overall it was bland with some interesting points during the 60s during the height of their careers in the monkees era.
The last hour or so really got stale and he pretty much just wants to sell the reader on his way of life and religion of yoga. It was like a two hour movie drawn out for three hours.
The narration was read by the author, he reads it well although he sounds like he has a mint in his mouth and takes a lot of deep breaths.
I would say skip the book and watch the documentary.

The Grateful Dead are perhaps the most legendary American rock band of all time. For 30 years, beginning in the hippie scene of San Francisco in 1965, they were a musical institution, the original jam band that broke new ground in so many ways.

Even If Your Not Into The Grateful Dead.
Revisado: 10-06-15
Where does Deal rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I read mostly biographies of Rock N Roll Legends. I am a light Grateful Dead fan. It didn't' matter. Its a great perspective to a very talented drummer from start to current. What makes these books great is how honest the writer is.
What other book might you compare Deal to and why?
I would compare this to any other Rock N Roll biography.
What does Peter Berkrot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He represented well of what Bill could sound like it. Sort of wild and biker guy.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Sure
Any additional comments?
Great book, I would recommend it.

John Lydon is an icon - one of the most recognizable and influential cultural figures of the last 40 years. As Johnny Rotten, he was the lead singer of the Sex Pistols, the world's most notorious band. The Pistols shot to fame in the mid-1970s with songs such as "Anarchy in the U.K." and "God Save the Queen". So incendiary was their impact at the time that in their native England, the Houses of Parliament questioned whether they violated the Traitors and Treasons Act.

From the author's first glimpse of a magical recording studio in the mid-1960s up through a busy career that continues to the present day, this rollicking story can only be told by those that were there. As the young tape operator on sessions for the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and Joe Cocker at the famed Olympic Sound Studios in London, Phill learned the ropes from experienced engineers and producers such as Glyn Johns and Eddie Kramer.

Revisado: 07-25-15
I read all of these 60's 70's and 80's era biographies of the band members and sound engineers. This one about Phil Brown is ok. Not the best. A good listen if you are interested in that era.
I found myself lost at times of who he was speaking about. There were some good bits but again nothing all that exciting.
His brother does the narration which is good as he reacts to what he's reading. So makes it fun to listen to.
I would recommend this, some people may like it but I'm comparing it to all the many others I have read and it's simply average.
He seems like a great guy but nothing too exciting to read about.
