Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

An incredible story!
Revisado: 06-21-23
Its been a long time since I felt so invested in characters like these. I feel I will never forget them. The narrator who I discovered is also the author does a phenomenal job and I was spellbound the entire time. At first I thought I would lose interest after Big Ammachi passed on but I was wrong! Although she was integral to the story, it was sweet to see how your influence and journey pave the way for future generations. Exceptionally well written and one of my favorites in a long, long time!

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Better than most
Revisado: 06-21-23
Excellent story! Would have enjoyed less unnecessary foul/harsh language that did not help the story at all, but loved the concept and idea for the stort itself! Also would have enjoyed the feel good moments to have been expounded on a bit so I could relish with the character more in the moment - especially the octopus who I was rooting for all along like most other readers will. it just seemed like the most meaningful parts were skimmed over without a lot of emotion. Overall, it's better than most stories I've listened to in a while!

Before long, Kit and Manny were infamous for their string of gas station robberies throughout Texas, making a name for themselves as the Texaco Twosome.

WARNING: GRAPHIC ANIMAL ABUSE/MURDER
Revisado: 04-02-23
There were sections of the story that should have come with a warning!! Not just animal cruelty, but OVERLY descriptive animal cruelty and vicious murder which did not add any value to the story. I almost turned it off an hour in, but I was driving and just kept going. The part about the horse near the end was ridiculous. Can't get over it. Wish I could erase that. I would likely review higher if not for that. Anyway, let's just say this novel is not for the faint of heart and the antagonist spirals from a bad guy who had almost nice qualities in the beginning to immeasurably evil, murderous and mentally unstable at the end. Beautiful writing in some places, but in others, there is no way actual people would say the words written as dialogue, I don't care who you are. Some of this may have been due to the nasally over-theatric narrator's voice, which was, at times, difficult to listen to. Overall, I'm not upset I spent a credit on it, but it should have come with an animal cruelty warning. Some violence is expected in today's world, but this was overboard.

outdated and not the actual information!
Revisado: 02-09-23
This is probably my least favorite thing I have ever purchased on Audible! it's super outdated and is as another reader said, basically an advertisement to take the course. I may have gleaned a tad of knowledge but absolutely nothing worth the credit I spent. You can read a summary on Google and know just as much. I'm pretty disappointed. Also, who refers to mentally ill persons as deranged and disturbed anymore? It's super old school from the 70's and the terminology and rude references were enough to totally turn me off!

Painfully atrocious
Revisado: 06-20-22
This book got on my nerves fast. About an hour in I started talking back to the narrator, rolling my eyes and saying things like, oh my God, that's so (unrealistic, stupid, ignorant, judgmental, stereotypical...well, you get the idea.) This is by far the worst book that I have ever picked on Audible in my tenure here. Storyline is a great opportunity but characters are so cliche and doggedly rigid that it's just unrealistic. I can't tell you how disappointed I was - not because I have any positions that were challenged or views that were or weren't expressed, but because the writing just reaks and all those opportunities were sorely missed. Save your credit on this one guys. Honestly. Pick something else.

Amazing storytelling! 👏
Revisado: 04-02-22
Absolutely loved this story! K.L. Slater is a new fave for me! excellent characters and I loved the way she used the opening scene later in the book when the bodies were found. Gave me a sense of familiarity as the book had opened completely intriguing my interest. I wish I could give this book 10 stars because 5 is definitely not enough! Fantastic!!

would listen to this author again. very nice character development though some confusion about Abbys age as preschool seems like 3 and 4 year olds too young for regular school. loved the book though. very good plot twists and kept me guessing. I enjoyed it.

Historia
Caroline Overington's stunning fiction debut is a multi-voiced novel centred around a child's death and its terrible repercussions. In 1982 Victorian police were called to a home on a housing estate an hour west of Melbourne. There, they found a five-year-old boy lying still and silent on the carpet. There were no obvious signs of trauma, but the child, Jacob, died the next day. The story made the headlines, and hundreds attended the funeral. Few people were surprised when the boy's mother and her boyfriend went to prison for the crime.

Revisado: 03-03-22
This author surprised me! I had never heard of her, but within momets i was hooked on the line and had to know the entire story. I related to so many different characters in this book and even though I grew up around the world (the story is set in Australia and I live in the U.S.) I felt like I had lived sections of the lives of so many! What a beautiful and compelling story! So well written and the most honest outlooks I have ever read. Bravo to this amazing author!
