Much more interesting and engaging the the last few gate ghosts novels.

I have been an obsessed loyal follower of Jucha since the first book Silver Ships was released. I love the universe and characters. But it was starting to feel too disjointed and soap-opera and stale for the last couple of gate ghosts books.

Empaths was an interesting departure from the original series, that had me questioning in the first chapter but had me thoroughly engaged from less than half way through that first book. It held my attention wheel through the end of that second book series rejoining the main storyline.

I enjoyed the gate ghosts series right off the bat, but it eventually dragged. Glad it got tied up now, and looking forward to the next series.

Overall, a nice satisfying ending for the 3rd series in Jucha's Silver Ships universe.

The 3 stories contained in this series are moderately different genres, While the first is action/horror, the second is shorter one is more spy/don’t get caught, and the third is intriguing mystery. All flow together, with a strong central romance theme.

The author certainly has a certain preferred style in both writing and main character types, but each time the details of the world makes the story and plot vary significantly. Also while the leading woman and man tend to be cut from the same cloth (military genius outcast from his civilization, strong woman who initially is more connected to her civilization but questions it) the side characters vary more.

This is the 4th series I’ve finished (Star Kingdom remains my favorite).

I must admit it is not my favorite Jucha novel, but it is quite good and Jucha remains one of my favorite authors. If you're reading this one, You had better not be new to the series or a lot won't make sense. Start with The Silver Ships.

An interesting story, with a splash of action but mostly character development and interplay.

Spoiler alert:

There is reference to Dag and Fawn, but it actually focuses on Barr and how he’s grown in 16 or so years, along with another strong young female character in his daughter Lilly. While she is prominent, the story is focused on Barr and the rest of the world dealing with the ramifications of his past youthful indiscretion, which he has well matured past.

I really love this series, and Grover Gardener has a very soothing voice, as always. This one really hits home personally, as I am a foster parent who has also adopted.

Even without that personal affinity, it is a well written, witty, interesting book. Without being overly sensational. Some nice plot surprises, and some plot progression that is easy to predict but satisfyingly accomplished.

I also really appreciate the way Bujold blends the general world lore recap into the book at appropriate times without being jarring or long winded. As is typical with the other books in this series.

I like Hank Green's youtube content and podcast, I like sci Fi, so it seemed logical to listen to this audio book when I heard about it. I was not disappointed.

The narrative story is interesting, there are several morals and questions raised, and the main female narrator does great, and then Hank himself finishes off the end as the first person perspective shifts.
