This is probably my favorite book by Craig Falconer so far. It is not an easy feat to put your main character in a solo situation without others to interact with and make it exciting and entertaining and this book does that. There is a point in the story where Ray does interact with some supporting cast and I'll just say that I immediately purchased the next book in the series with hopes that we'll see those characters appear again. Craig also runs a Facebook group fan page and I really appreciate his interactions with his fans and frequent updates on upcoming books.

I've been a fan of Craig Falconer since reading his "Not Alone" series of books and while I'm not a big fan of short stories, I've loved this compilation. It was definitely worth a credit and a great listen. The narrators were great too. I'd say my favorites of the bunch were "Bound For Glory", "Replica", Yester Year", and "Funscreen". There were a couple of stories that I think have a lot of potential to be fleshed out into a full book if not a multi-book series. If you're a Craig Falconer fan, this is a must-have. If you've not read a Craig Falconer book this is a great introduction to the characters and situations that he creates in his novels and short stories.

Full disclosure: I received a code from the author to listen to this book for free and to provide a review. The opinions are my own. I have listened to most of Craig A. Falconer's books and love his writing style. This story doesn't disappoint though I do have to admit that I don't ordinarily buy short stories by themselves but rather in anthology books. Without spoiling the plot the characters were engaging and it didn't take long to invest in the main character. While I felt the ending was a little anti-climactic and somewhat predictable to me, it left me wanting to see more of this character, the world and the many questions that we're left with that couldn't be explored in a 63 minute story. It is a great story to listen to before bedtime or in a short commute across town.

First review here. First, I have to say that I love the graphic, acted-out audiobooks with sound effects. They are just as I grew up listening to on the radio in my home in Oregon. But perhaps it's my home state that makes it difficult to continue to listen. I listen to a lot of science fiction so I'm entirely capable of suspending disbelief but it all came crashing down when the story referred to a summer day as 11 degrees in the morning and 30 degrees in the afternoon (the typical Oregonian doesn't use Celsius to tell the temperature outside), talked about an Orange farm (we don't have Oranges in Oregon), Lobster at the Seafood Restaurant (we have clams, crabs, tuna and salmon), a torch (what we call a flashlight), and surgery (what we call an autopsy). In researching, I am to understand this is the first book of a trilogy that was written in German and translated by someone else so the bad job is by whomever edited it and not the author! I know they are little distractions but they took away from my enjoyment of the story because it made it appear the author hadn't done his research for the setting in which the story was set. I agree with others that said the acting was overdone; the dialogue between the Sheriff and his kids was crinch worthy. The 80s references were forced and seemed, at times, out of place (I graduated high school in 1984). And when a Sheriff is satisfied with a suspect description by a witness as being "huge" and "dark" without prodding for more details to put out on an APB along with the lack of crime scene protections (which I also can suspend disbelief as I watched a lot of Knight Rider, Six Million Dollar Man and Quincy), then it just became too much to take. I'm going to plod through to the end of this story but wanted to add my review that some elements of the storytelling can make it rough to get through.
