Powerful perspective every human on earth should have.
Revisado: 10-16-24
She was grateful that this happened to her and not a college student who would have been less prepared or without the support system she had. That is so profound and insanely generous to be able to articulate. This book is so well written, but of course it is. I can’t think of another tragedy or miscarriage of justice that has brought so much awareness. Chanel’s story of strength is so inspiring.
I remember following the news right after it came out. Over the years I would think about it and realize that I forgot his name. I would look it up and see what he was doing. I remember being furious about the lenient sentence he received.
I followed Chanel as well. I can’t believe it has taken me so long to read (listen to) her book. I’m thrilled that she narrated it. I will listen to this book over and over again. The way she describes her accomplishments throughout the court process (headlining the show at a comedy club), the way she lived while also experiencing the crushing reality of what was happening is unmatched and unbelievable. I don’t even have words for how inspiring this book is. “I am with you,” she says. To all of us who are navigating our lives after being victimized. This is just such a powerful story. Thank you for writing this, thank you for your thoughtfulness towards others including your rapist as you navigated your post-attack life. There is so much to be learned by every category of human with this book.
Chanel you are an absolute hero!
Lucas, you are too!
The way you supported Chanel despite the challenges was lovely to hear about.

Incredible story!
Revisado: 10-06-24
I love stories of strength and perseverance. Especially in females. I also love to listen to author narrated books. Lauren’s story of perseverance against the odds is incredible! It seems, from my perspective, that gymnastics sets people up to succeed through traumas like no other sport I know of. Thank you, Lauren, for your bravery in telling your story! I hope many lives will be changed through recovery and empathy for addiction after hearing your story.

Author narrated is my favorite!!
Revisado: 09-22-24
There was so much I loved about this book that I can’t list everything! It’s an amazing story of challenge, bravery, and drive! I adore her energy in the narration! I love the fun that she brings to the Everest expedition team. I’m such a huge fan of women succeeding in unexpected places and that is what drew me to this book. I’m not a hiker or in the medical field, but I’m a woman who has succeeded against the odds and I hope to one day tell my story in such a captivating way.

Not what I hoped for
Revisado: 02-25-24
Turns out the information I wanted is free on Bryan Johnson’s website. Five stars for creativity in the way he wrote the book and I wouldn’t NOT recommend it. I just didn’t find it useful since I’m already on board. I might come back and listen again later on now that my brain is ready for the quirky manner in which the material is shared.

Historia
People with borderline or narcissistic personality disorders have a serious mental illness that primarily affects their intimate, personal, and family relationships. Often they appear to be normally functioning at work and in public interactions, and narcissists may even be highly effective, in the short term, in some work or social situations. However, in intimate relationships, they can be emotional, aggressive, demeaning, illogical, paranoid, accusing, and controlling - in the extreme.

Best book on the topic
Revisado: 08-15-22
I have been trying to understand how I ended up in a relationship with a narcissist and comprehend why I stayed for so long. This book described it like they know me and it was SO helpful in my journey towards healing and forming healthier relationships. I’m so grateful for this book and I will definitely be listening to it again.
