Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

I just didn't care for this much.

My husband and I listened to this book on a road trip, and we felt was a story that 's been done before, so it felt boring to us.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

drugs, immorality, theft, lying, cheating,steal...

This book was interesting to listen to, but why can't an author write a gripping story that has some shred of decency in it. The main character started out with some goodness in him, but continued to become more and more of a delinquent as time went on. And I liked him less and less. I don't know if I could recommend it to anyone.

not the best...
Revisado: 12-26-13
I thought the main character was depressing. I know the story was about a tragedy, but it was hard for me to like her. She was boring, rude, selfish, and immoral. I felt like she didn't have many redeemable qualities. So It didn't make me feel much sympathy for her even though I should have. I think because I couldn't connect with the main character, the story dragged on. I just didn't like it that much.

completely shallow characters
Revisado: 11-19-13
I thought the narration of this story was well done, but the story itself was dumb. I hoped there would be more of a story about Rosalyns ghost to finish up the book, but there wasn't a great story about her either.

Historia
People start dropping dead around Charlie, giant ravens perch on his building, and it seems that everywhere he goes, a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad, and before he knows it, those people end up dead, too. Yup, it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job, an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death.

f word in first few minutes
Revisado: 09-07-13
Would you try another book from Christopher Moore and/or Fisher Stevens?
not from christopher moore, although it seems like a creative and interesting story.
Would you ever listen to anything by Christopher Moore again?
No, I guess I don't appreciate the irreverent humor and especially the foul language. It ruins the book for me.
What character would you cut from A Dirty Job?
I didn't listen to very much of it.
Any additional comments?
It would be nice if books had a profanity rating.

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If the story would have some redeeming value. It was all about self absorbed people with horrible morals.
Would you ever listen to anything by Jess Walter again?
no
Would you be willing to try another one of Edoardo Ballerini’s performances?
yes

enjoyable
Revisado: 11-29-05
This book was a little hard to get into at first, but I found it enjoyable after the first hour or so. I also felt like a lot of the story was a rip off of Little Women and Anne of Green Gables. Even so, it was still a good read.
