Historia
In The Golden Egg, as the first leaves of autumn begin to fall, Vice Questore Patta asks Brunetti to look into a minor violation committed by the mayor’s future daughter-in-law. Brunetti has no interest in helping his boss amass political favors, but he has little choice but to comply. Then Brunetti’s wife, Paola, comes to him with a request of her own. The mentally handicapped man who worked at their dry cleaners has just died of a sleeping pill overdose, and Paola loathes the idea that he lived and died without anyone noticing him, or helping him.

Family complications
Revisado: 11-25-23
David Rintoul brings Commissario Brunetti to life with the sound and inflections of his voice. I very much appreciate that because Brunetti is a favorite of mine and I am enjoying the first sound of him in this very interesting novel.

Eve and Peabody
Revisado: 11-25-23
Having read the series completely, I am listening to the audiobooks, starting with Book 1 and enjoy the stories in a different format. Susan Erickson gives Peabody a sound all her own. I like that.

Historia
In North Devon, where two rivers converge and run into the sea, Detective Matthew Venn stands outside the church as his estranged father’s funeral takes place. On the day Matthew left the strict evangelical community he grew up in, he lost his family, too. Now, as he turns and walks away again, he receives a call from one of his team. A body has been found on the beach nearby: a man with a tattoo of an albatross on his neck, stabbed to death. The case calls Matthew back to the people and places of his past, as deadly secrets hidden at their hearts are revealed.

Matthew Venn
Revisado: 11-25-23
When he responded to a proposal with such exuberance, unusual for him, it thrilled me and caused me to feel joy for him.
I felt this both when I read the book and again when when listening to the audiobook as read by the narrator.
