I was thoroughly caught up in this story and narration. I avoided this book at first because the subject didn’t appeal to me: a Russian woman sniper. However, this book is as interesting and captivating as The Rose Code and The Brier Club. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes historical fiction.

Good story

The plot held my attention through the twist and turns. The reader did a good job delineating the voices of the different characters. However, she had an annoying habit of dropping the last vowel of some words making it hard to understand: police would become “poli”, face would become “fa”, princess became “prin”, etc

Not allowed to get old

I applaud Brooke Shields for a compelling and well researched book. I am a decade older than Ms. Shields and I found myself smiling and nodding my head, having had similar experiences to hers. This is an important book for women in their 40’s and 50’s to understand what is to come, and the freedom they can experience.

I liked everything about this book! The subject is interesting. The characters grab your attention immediately and keeps your attention. The story is fast paced and doesn’t drag. I recommend this book highly.

Slow start, confusing ending

Very slow start to the story. It was at least half way through before I was really interested in the story. Then the ending was less than satisfactory. I have read other books by this author and this didn’t measure up to her usual stories.

Interesting novel

The story was interesting but became unnecessarily wordy in places.
What made the book hard to listen to was the narrator. She sounded like a teenager in her tone and cadence. I sped up the audio 1.5 x to make her voice more palatable.

Good story after slow start

I found this hard to get into even though I had listened to the first book. There were a few grammatical errors that were hard to listen to but overall, the story sucks you in and keeps your interest to the end.
The person who voiced Camille’s character was hard to hear at times because she would go from normal speaking voice to growling and whispering into the microphone. Lots of vocal fry. The other voice artists were pleasant to listen to.

Highly recommended!!

This book will make women of my age (60 or older) angry to relive the struggle for equal opportunities for women. For younger women, it should serve as a history lesson in how far we have come but how much farther we need to go. It should serve as a rallying cry for all women.

Excellent story!

I enjoyed listening to the story which kept my interest. I would be open to listening to another book by this author IF the actor who voiced Kate was not performing. Her voice reminded me of a depressed Gilmore girl: mumbled yet quick speech, overly subdued to where I had to turn up the volume to understand her, and overacted the depression and grief that Kate was experiencing. I rarely comment on the voice actors but this was very distracting from those chapters dealing with Kate.
