Too Much Filler

For high reviews I expected more UAP than memoir or personal anecdotes about his climb up the Pentagon ladder. Yeah, we’ve absolutely been lied
to for a very long time. It’s a short book but my overall impression is “meh.”

I Really Wanted to Like This Book…

…but I just couldn’t find the hook to keep me interested. It is very long-winded. Part One reads like a story written for adolescents. So many professional reviews tout the book as hysterically funny. I did not find it so. I rarely give up on a book that is written well, and this book is written well, but I wasn’t able to find the joy in listening one more second.

I imagine our conversation. The first season of Alive & Well Enough wraps up with “The End,” a song I recorded years ago with my Circle Rep friend and fellow songwriter Jonathan Hogan about looking back on a life spent telling stories.

Perfection Itself!

I am a huge, longtime fan of Jeff Daniels the musician. I have listened to his musical stories over and over again, all day long, while creating stitched art. So I just “knew” that this audio memoir would be wonderful.
It was over too soon and I can’t wait for more! Of course in the meantime, I’m going to listen to this again and again. What a gift the multi-talented Mr. Jeff Daniels is to the world. I highly recommend this delightful offering.

It Just Never Gets There

With 4+ hours to go, I give up! So many times the author teases the real story but then just devolves into endless description and uneventful, boring side story. Had it been shorter, it might have been great story-telling.
The other issue is the preaching, at first edifying regarding the Indian caste system. At the point I gave up, the author went for out and out preaching about America, India, skin color, sexual preference, sexism. Anything, to avoid telling the real story of adultery. So disappointing!
