Historia
When Penny Dahl calls the Finders Keepers detective agency, hoping for help locating her missing daughter, Holly Gibney is reluctant to accept the case. Her partner, Pete, has Covid. Her (very complicated) mother has just passed away. And Holly is meant to be on leave. But something in Penny’s desperate voice makes it impossible to turn her down. Meanwhile, mere blocks from where Bonnie Dahl disappeared live Professors Rodney and Emily Harris. But they are also harboring a shocking, unholy secret.

This book, I am very pained to say, is Mr. Kings ultra liberal coming out.
Revisado: 09-27-24
I’ve followed and read King for 4 decades, this will likely be his only book that I will not finish. It’s not the first time King has leveraged his celebrity for a liberal cause (see Guns). At his level of notoriety it seems to me he either should rise above yelling from a soapbox about HIS beliefs or fairly warn the readership that 5hey are about to embark not on a fictional story but rather on a thinly veiled diatribe. You sold out your readership mr. King; you took your unparalleled talent of suspenseful character development and self reflection, and sold your Constant Readers a personal opinionated flight of fancy. Whether or not your precepts have merit IS NOT THE POINT. You, Constant Writer, let us down. 😞

Mostly (!) self aggrandizement.
Revisado: 09-27-24
What stood out in this book was that it should be considered an autobiography. This is quite heavily laden with self-aggrandizement as we follow the author through his childhood, school years military service, etc. In fairness; that is how most government officials reach their highest pay grade (which he waxes on about) is shameless self promotion. Substance falls quite short in the first 2/3…..very likely will not complete this.

I would LIKE to review this excellent book…
Revisado: 08-25-23
…but alas, Audible claims that my review constitutes AGREEMENT with Audible. Coms customer review guidelines…
Which therein states that I agree with their Term And Conditions of Use….
….which therein state that I must agree with Amazon.com usage agreements up to and including (as 1 subset!) their cookie policy!!?.
Well….no. I don’t agree with every far reaching policy and guideline Audible and their parent company may deem Profitable to them.
After all, keeping customers happy, in-line, thus providing a sanitized user experience is…profitable.
Too bad; really good text and performance.

Historia
> Walking is not as well known as Thoreau's other works Walden, The Maine Woods, and Civil Disobedience. But it is a good place to start exploring his writing because it was his last book, in 1862, published by the Atlantic Monthly shortly after his death. It is less well known because it is general, as opposed to singular, in focus. It is his summing up of his thoughts on life: One should saunter through life and take notice; one need not go far.

not the correct narrator
Revisado: 11-07-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This is a classic book, by one of America's classic authors.
Would you be willing to try another one of Deaver Brown’s performances?
No. This is absolutely the wrong narrator for a performance of a 19th century author. This person has a wonderful voice....if you're listening to The Sopranos; not Thoreau.
