Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Jaw dropping amazing
Revisado: 02-11-23
Wow, amazing! A window into the soul of America. The good, bad and ugly side. How she gets into the brain of an adolescent boy astounds me. And the sad truths of poverty and children left behind and taken advantage of by legal drug lords, life ripped out from under them. She says it all so plainly. Now we know. What are we gonna do about it?

Everyone should read this book. I enjoyed every second. A beautifully written story about how hard it is to grow up when you don’t belong in what society thinks is normal.

Historical Fiction at its finest
Revisado: 08-02-15
Great story about the political intrigues of 15th-century Iran. Because the two main characters are a eunuch and a princess the story is enriched with descriptions of court life through this unique point of view. Both eunuch and princess are poets who share the love of art with one another. The reader is allowed a glimpse into the world that spawned the great poems of Rumi and the glorious architecture of a bygone age. However, it was politics as usual with lots of assassinations as princes vied for power in an attempt to crush all other contenders to the throne. The reader was excellent as well, making this book a truly great read.

Historia
> The Chaperone is a captivating novel about the woman who chaperoned an irreverent Louise Brooks to New York City in 1922, and the summer that would change them both. Only a few years before becoming a famous actress and an icon for her generation, a 15-year-old Louise Brooks leaves Wichita to make it big in New York. Much to her annoyance, she is accompanied by a thirty-six-year-old chaperone who is neither mother nor friend. Cora Carlisle is a complicated but traditional woman with her own reasons for making the trip.

Historia
From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

From Slavery to Freedom
Revisado: 06-21-15
This is the riveting true story of a woman who seeks her personal individual freedom from a society that devalues women as well as the black race. Her story of emancipation parallels the story of the emancipation of slaves. In real life, Sara Grimke, Who is the daughter of wealthy slave owners, immigrates to the north where she is finally able to free herself from the shackles of male domination. As she finds her voice she becomes a force for the emancipation of slaves and women everywhere. This is a well written book. I could not stop reading it. It gives me hope for our future in which we are seeking emancipation from corporate enslavement. It helped me to understand that what humanity is going through now is just another form of this same old theme, and that as we persevere we too shall overcome.
