Skippy finds a friend
Revisado: 02-05-23
If you like the Expeditionary Force series by Craig Alanson, you'll enjoy meeting Sheldon. This is a very short book with lots of opportunities for sequels.
Story and characters were great, but it could have been developed a bit more. No surprises, just Skippy types of banter with a plot laid on top of that.

Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Ascendant meets Expeditionary Force (sort of...)
Revisado: 09-14-22
There is a universe somewhere, where these two great series come together. This isn't that, but it seems like an effort to do so. The main character Kaz, is very Joe Bishop, and the dog is a mix between Skippy and young Koren's horse. If you read Mr. Alanson for the banter and for the internal conversations in his main character's head, this will be a decent read. The story..., has potential. But, it meanders through the first 2/3s of the book looking for a plot.
I'm not sure why the girl had to be 17, petite, and with firey red-hair. It seems that if a wizard was to find the age's best warrior, her attributes wouldn't be so delicate.
Sadly, Mr Alanson's recent affection with MOH (Miracle Occurs Here) endings left me disappointed. Perhaps a publishing date rushed the ending, but I thought the climax deserved more intrigue, especially since it is trying to tee up the next book in the series.
And now for RC Bray - ROCK STAR! Sometimes I think I'd buy an audiobook of him reading a Whirlpool Owners Manual, so maybe I am biased. My only problem was that "Smithe" seemed to show up in the last 3 chapters. That was a little too close.
In the end, if Alanson/Bray pair up, I will probably buy the next one. Let's just say, I am "Trusting the awesomeness"!

my mother and I have a very exclusive book club there's only two members. We took on this book because it just made sense with the chaos that is our lives. dr. Peterson is a fascinating man. I don't know that I could hold a conversation with him, at least one that he would be interested in. however, I learned a great deal in this book and for that I'm very thankful.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Great story, lots of holes
Revisado: 09-14-18
Some spoilers. In many ways the first two thirds of the book were a wonderful journey of building friendships and of discovery. However the last third of the book took off like a lightning bolt and seemed to cut many shortcuts to get to a conclusion.
Ray Porter was a genius in this. Great use a voice and inflection to communicate many things not in the written word.
My only wish would be that the book would go back and be retold and fill in missing blocks such as how was the key discovered. What purpose were the seven legged cockroaches to the story? Why did the government choose to hide the existence of the apartment in this way? What was the purpose of the dimensionality of distance? I could see it playing stronger roll if the alien creature was suddenly on top of them. That never happened.
it was a good enough book that I'm sure I will listen to it again at some point in the future.

Historia
United Nations Special Operations Command sent an elite expeditionary force of soldiers and pilots out on a simple recon mission, and somehow along the way they sparked an alien civil war. Now the not-at-all-merry band of pirates is in desperate trouble, again. Their stolen alien starship is falling apart, thousands of light years from home. The ancient alien AI they nicknamed Skippy is apparently dead, and even if they can by some miracle revive him, he might never be the same.

Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

First, Mr Wheaton - You have a future as Buzz Lightyear! Admiral Vance was a bang on replica of Tim Allen.
Slow start, big finish, epic omage to the 80s and 90s. Loved the tracks. The audiobook should have had a sound track (I get the budget, but it was in my head).
