One of the finest narrations ever made ~ genius!
Revisado: 01-20-24
Anyone familiar with Conan Doyle’s Holmes stories knows the brilliance of this singular British detective. This one purchase will nab every one of the intriguing tales for your listening enjoyment. I believe I have listened to and own hundreds of audiobooks over the years. I hold very high standards for the abilities of the narrator. In my experience, Stephen Fry without doubt is as skilled a narrator as Holmes was a detective and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle a writer. Thank you, Mr. Fry for this penultimate masterpiece of performances. Brilliant!

In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

A MUST listen for WW2 scholars & history buffs
Revisado: 07-22-23
I’ve read and watched much over the years about WW2 with respect, horror and pride in those who fought against the Nazi regime, especially those civilians who experienced it firsthand for years. I had never heard of Virginia Hall, which is a travesty. Honestly, once you know her story you’ll wonder as do I if the allies could possibly have persevered in Europe and achieved victory without her. Valiant on so many levels, a true heroine for the ages. Thank you to the author and MERCI VIRGINIA!

Laughed so much I woke up my husband!
Revisado: 06-30-22
Peter Capaldi narrates. Enough said. Automatic 5 stars for narration. But Peter narrates this one with the most wonderful Scottish accent ~ purely lovely and it adds more to the humor of the words, especially for Sputnik. But don’t try listening to this in bed with earbuds unless you’re sleeping alone. Full disclosure... I decided to submit a review before I even finished chapter one because the story is so funny I couldn’t contain my laughter. Ended up waking my husband because the laughs were escaping as snorts. The hazards of listening to a brilliantly written hilarious story after everyone else has gone to bed. Many thanks to the author and narrator for a fantastic Audible experience!!
P. S. Heaven help me! Chapter 3 is so funny I had to come to the living room to be able to laugh out loud. My eardrums were about to explode from trying to keep my laughs inside to not waken him again. What a fabulously entertaining book!

Will Thomas, I beg of you to continue this series!
Revisado: 04-23-22
In my opinion, my Audible authors of choice and narrators are of the highest caliber. I would have bet my last farthing that there would never be another series I’d love as dearly as Agatha’s Poirot, but Will Thomas’s characters of Cyrus Barker and Thomas Llewelyn have stolen my heart and highly likely due to Anthony Ferguson’s unequivocal narration skills for this series. I can only hope, pray and plead for Will Thomas and Anthony Ferguson to continue this series into perpetuity.

Revisado: 05-12-19
C. S. Lewis is my favorite author and his Chronicles of Narnia are my favorite books. Have reread them for 40 years and they never fail to thrill and encourage readers. Of all 7 audiobooks, Branagh’s narration is the best. Listen and enjoy!

Listen to Rick Bragg read this well worded tale
Revisado: 05-29-18
I was highly entertained listening to Mr. Bragg tell his stories of Southern living. There are untold skeletons in the closets of the South. Mr. Bragg doesn’t deny nor dwell upon them. But I digress. Take a trip through bayous and poboy shops, football stadiums, churches, and fishing holes. Every minute is entertaining. And darn funny sometimes too. MR. BRAGG, IF YOU READ THIS, I’D LIKE TO BUY YOU A CHILI DOG AT THE VARSITY + ONION RINGS ;))

Kept me thinking til the end!
Revisado: 01-05-18
Masterful at her craft, Christie writes slightly outside her normal parameters with this one as Poirot himself isn’t quite always as anticipated in this suspenseful mystery. Enjoyed it very much. Definitely Christie but painted with a different brush.
