Historia
Nolan Kilkenny is a former Navy SEAL who is now pursuing his doctorate in advanced computer technology. While investigating a seemingly harmless technical problem in a complex, highly secured computer network, he becomes involved in the CIA and FBI's fierce hunt for three computer-age information pirates. The ruthless, brilliant thieves have stolen SPYDER - the CIA's ultra-secret electronic intelligence gathering project that can pry open the most heavily-guarded computer networks in existence.

First published January 1, 1998.... dial-up modems
Revisado: 05-11-23
I am so annoyed by Audible's inability to show the original published date, only showing the date the latest audio book was released. I was excited to read a thriller about relatively recent computer tech. There is a MASSIVE difference between 1998 and 2017, light years. We have gigabit to the home and laptops with 64Gigs of ram and a dozen 2Ghz+ cores, plus blazing fast cellular 5G (sorta) to mobile phones that are faster than the super computers in the book.
It's not just the outdated tech, which was fine when it was published, but the story is written at an 8th grade level, and riddled with racism toward people of Asian decent, sexism that might get a pass in 1970, the typical stereotypes of men should like and should be. Listening to this book as if it were written in in the mid 2010s magnified those issues even more. At first I thought the early chapters were part of a backstory. Then it was clear that it was an old book dreamed up when we still received AOL discs in the mail.
My review is partially due to frustration over the confusing published date and Audible terrible return policy. If today was 1998 and I just picked up this book, I would give it 3 stars overall. The performance is still pedestrian, and the story is bland.

Historia
From BSFA award-winning author Gareth L. Powell comes the first in a new epic sci-fi trilogy exploring the legacies of war. The sentient warship Trouble Dog was built for violence, yet following a brutal war, she is disgusted by her role in a genocide. Stripped of her weaponry and seeking to atone, she joins the House of Reclamation, an organization dedicated to rescuing ships in distress. When a civilian ship goes missing in a disputed system, Trouble Dog and her new crew of loners, captained by Sal Konstanz, are sent on a rescue mission.

Totally recommend. Unique presentation.
Revisado: 09-06-20
I’m a sci-fi aficionado, consuming the genre's stories ranging from the 1800 to 2020+.
The style is unique. First person via main characters; including the ship as a being. Some parts of the story are obvious, but not cliché, while other parts are illuminating. Pay close attention to each character’s name in the first few chapters. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Awesome narration, decent story
Revisado: 08-25-20
Narration is amazing. Story is weak. Did not love the characters or their development. As a stand-alone story this is weak. This is the only Expeditionary Force book that I do not recommend.

Science fiction allows us to go places we can only dream of seeing - other worlds, distant stars, entirely different galaxies. While not every story is concerned with the hard science behind space travel and other futuristic ventures, fiction can give us amazing insight into what we could be capable of and what we dream of doing. In these 10 lectures, Professor Erin Macdonald interweaves real science and the achievements of the imagination to reveal the truth that underlies our favorite stories and sheds light on what the future may hold.

I HIGHLY recommend to both sci-fi and science nerds, but also to non-nerds. I will listen again for sure.
She makes it extremely easy to digest the concepts (most of the time).
The title of my review says it all. I never give full five stars, but she deserves it. She is incredible as the creator of the lectures, a sci-fi fan, a scientist, and a narrator. I not only got schooled in science, but in sci-fi.

Meet the galaxy's unluckiest outlaws. Carl Ramsey is an ex-Earth Navy fighter pilot turned con man. His ship, the Mobius, is home to a ragtag crew of misfits and refugees looking to score a big payday but more often just scratching to pay for fuel. The crew consists of his ex-wife (and pilot), a drunkard, four-handed mechanic, a xeno-predator with the disposition of a 120kg housecat, and the galaxy's most-wanted wizard.

Fun sci fi, great characters, expansive worlds
Revisado: 03-28-20
If you loved or even like Firefly, stop reading, but this and start listening. It’s bigger world building, more and deeper characters, and a lot sarcasm, jokes and fun.
The narrator has an amazing range and many times I was convinced that an ensemble was at work.
Also, for 80hrs+ of content, this is the deal of a century.

On the edge of the galaxy, a diplomatic mission to an alien planet takes a turn when the Legionnaires, an elite special fighting force, find themselves ambushed and stranded behind enemy lines. They struggle to survive under siege, waiting on a rescue that might never come. In the seedy starport of Ackabar, a young girl searches the crime-ridden gutters to avenge her father's murder; not far away, a double-dealing legionniare-turned-smuggler hunts an epic payday; and somewhere along the outer galaxy, a mysterious bounty hunter lies in wait.

Basically a war/battle novel; barely a scifi novel
Revisado: 02-29-20
Most of the book is graphic war and battles scenes, with a little sci-fi thrown in here and there.

Historia
It’s been 120 years since the 50 or so worldships containing the few million survivors of the human species set off after the planet Earth was destroyed by a meteor. On the Worldship Humility, Sam, a 30-year-old Airlock Operative, is bored. Living in space should be exciting and full of adventure, except it isn’t, and he fills his time hacking 3-D movie posters and holographic adverts outside the stores in the retail zone. Petty thief Yasmine Emile Dufont is also from the WS Humility, but she is not bored....

Good characters, but very little sci-GI
Revisado: 01-03-20
Could have been an action drama on earth. If you want action, dig in, if you want sci-fi look elsewhere.
Enjoyed the characters, banter, story, and the pace.
Fight scenes were ridiculous.... tiny people taking massive damage from giant people without having enough time to heal (weeks/months) before taking massive damage again.

Historia
In a ruined and toxic landscape, a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep. There, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. Sheriff Holston, who has unwaveringly upheld the silo’s rules for years, unexpectedly breaks the greatest taboo of all: He asks to go outside.

Too long making it predictable
Revisado: 12-29-19
Overall a creative concept with some strong, likable characters, but too long.
Could have been 1/2 the length. Many descriptions are repetitive, pedantic, lackluster seemingly there to fill space.
So many missed opportunities.
Many of the premises are far fetched.
If a short story, the mystery would be there. The filler reduces suspense.

Historia
Five years ago, the US Space Force became a reality. And while those writing the checks took things very seriously, the other military branches did not. As a result, Space Force was populated by undesirables. My name is Captain Ethan Stone, a decorated member of SEAL Team Six turned Space Force "recruit". Flash forward five years and between tenses. President West is in office. Power has shifted. And Space Force is defunded. With just a handful of us still living on base, we find ourselves being evicted. But before all of us can leave, aliens invade.

Sophomoric and redundant
Revisado: 04-23-19
Infinite by This author was amazing. Deep, full of intrigue while exploring possible futures, all while being both entertaining and thought provoking.
This book, space farce is a basic action “b” movie you watch on cable (anyone still have that?) after hours. I should have stopped early on, but pushed through, only to find more of the same jokes and no hidden loot at the end.
