Historia
In the aftermath of Ireland's financial collapse, dangerous tensions surface in an Irish town. As violence flares, the characters face a battle between public persona and inner desires. Through a chorus of unique voices, each struggling to tell their own kind of truth, a single authentic tale unfolds. The Spinning Heart speaks for contemporary Ireland like no other novel. Wry, vulnerable, all-too human, it captures the language and spirit of rural Ireland and with uncanny perception articulates the words and thoughts of a generation.

This book is fantastic. The beautiful transformation of colloquial Irish language into poetry. The use of each character to tell an interwoven story. And the narration is excellent too. Absolutely loved it.

Historia
Suffused with the history and landscapes of the American West—its otherworldly flora and fauna, its rugged loggers and bridge builders—this extraordinary novella poignantly captures the disappearance of a distinctly American way of life. It tells the story of Robert Grainer, a day laborer in the American West at the start of the twentieth century—an ordinary man in extraordinary times. Buffeted by the loss of his family, Grainer struggles to make sense of this strange new world.

Historia
A brilliant new collection of stories from one of the most acclaimed and beloved writers of our time. Alice Munro’s peerless ability to give us the essence of a life in often brief but always spacious and timeless stories is once again everywhere apparent in this brilliant new collection. In story after story, she illumines the moment a life is forever altered by a chance encounter or an action not taken, or by a simple twist of fate that turns a person out of his or her accustomed path and into a new way of being or thinking.

In the classic work that launched a play, a movie, and a song, Muriel Spark tells the darkly intriguing story of an eccentric Edinburgh teacher and the intense relationship she develops with six of her students. The scandalously outspoken Miss Brodie makes big waves in the conservative Scottish school, preaching the value of art, passion, and daring.

Historia
Wallace Stegner's uniquely American classic centers on Lyman Ward, a noted historian who relates a fictionalized biography of his pioneer grandparents at a time when he has become estranged from his own family. Through a combination of research, memory, and exaggeration, Ward voices ideas concerning the relationship between history and the present, art and life, parents and children, and husbands and wives.

Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

Deeply Thoughtful
Revisado: 07-18-23
If you are interested in creativity, I highly recommend. A great collection of RR’s thoughts on the process of creation.
I do think the book could have been better. But that’s just my opinion. First, I think it would have been better if he had focused on music since this is what he knows best. Instead the book attempts to speak to all creative acts and often gets lost in the massive genealogy that comes with that. I think hearing how his ideas apply to music would have allowed for more specifics and examples / and other creators could have taken the lesson from the example away to their own field.
My other complaint is that the book started with a beautiful idea - the goal of a creator is to experience the act of creating. But quickly that idea was abandoned and instead everything was motivated by how you make the greatest work. For some people this makes sense. But I honestly would have loved a book that focused on crating for its own sake, pure and simple.
Despite these concerns, I still enjoyed the book a lot.

Fantatsic Book and Narration
Revisado: 02-09-20
You don’t need me to tell you how good this book is. Amazingly dark comedy/tragedy. Where I can help you more is to say that the narration is incredibly good. I’d even say, perfect. Just the right tone, read so clearly, with enough variation to bring each character to life. This is an absolute must-listen audiobook. I really wish it had never ended.
