Incadenscent writing and performance
Revisado: 03-03-23
This book is .... why we read... why we sign up for Audible and listen. This IS Happiness. This book is the experience of Happiness. I re-listened to Chapter 1 and 2 over and over again. I could not get enough of the words and the reading of them.
Words do not suffice.... I am gobsmacked and grateful. The rarity when a story, the writing, the narration come together to create a feast of Happiness.

Marvelously performed and mesmerizing
Revisado: 05-04-22
I rarely listen to fiction. A friend had recommended. It transports. Brilliantly performed. I listened at .8 speed - slowing it to savor the story. A wonderful escape while inviting questions about love, life and what makes us human.

Historia
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

I read this book years ago and now listening - having forgotten most of it- I was enthralled. I'd relisten to parts because the language was so rich, nuanced and poetic.
The story is relevant and ispellbinding.
It's a must read.

Historia
The authors outline two possible scenarios for our planet. In one, they describe what life on Earth will be like by 2050 if we fail to meet the Paris Agreement’s climate targets. In the other, they lay out what it will be like to live in a regenerative world that has net-zero emissions. They argue for confronting the climate crisis head-on, with determination and optimism. The Future We Choose presents our options and tells us what governments, corporations, and each of us can, and must, do to fend off disaster.

Must Read/Listen
Revisado: 09-07-21
I wasn't expecting to be uplfited, to find this book to be so helpful in so many ways.
I haven't even finished listening.... however I have listened to Chapter 5 on Stubborn Optimism at
least 3 times. I have listened to Chapter 3, "The World We Must Create", at least twice.
I am looking forward to driving to listen to more. If you care about our planet this book inspires and
offers some very useful tools for being with our climate challenges.

Historia
When Raphael Cushnir's marriage fell apart, he decided to stop running away from the pain and embrace it. This led to an unintended explosion of “Kundalini” energy as well as a spiritual awakening. Yet, his awakening was anything but typical. At first it was chaotic, terrifying, and even sometimes demonic.

A fascinating and ineffable story
Revisado: 08-09-21
Surviving the Divine is a memoir on a topic that is impossible to tell and yet the author tells it in an authentic, complex, and nuanced voice(s) - shared with honesty, transparency, and vulnerability. He does not shy away from embarrassment and shares the full-blown human experience from angst to awe. I found myself listening whenever I had a free moment, intrigued by his journey, and left to ponder the interface between human and Divine in all our lives.
The story is a wild encounter in every sense of the word, and Cushnirs' telling gives voice to many parts of the experience in a human and personal way. He shares the experience as an explorer, investigator, and I was able to relax my skepticism and listen to a trustworthy teller attempting to convey an ineffable life-changing experience.
Cusnirs' tone was not overinflated - he is transparent - and at least to this listener, he tells his story with a genuine desire to share the experience for whomever this might most benefit. As a reader I followed along from gobsmacked, shocked, wow'ed, curious, and intrigued. It's absolutely worth reading/listening for those who want to explore the human experience of love and divine encounters.
And as a regular audible listener, his memoir is perhaps the best author read book I have listened to.

As a botanist and professor of plant ecology, Robin Wall Kimmerer has spent a career learning how to ask questions of nature using the tools of science. As a Potawatomi woman, she learned from elders, family, and history that the Potawatomi, as well as a majority of other cultures indigenous to this land, consider plants and animals to be our oldest teachers.

This is a book of such depth that I listened and read it. Her writing, message and voice carry a vision that is compelling and uplifting. Her stories weave science and wisdom with poetic brilliance. Robin Wall Kimmerer does not lecture, she is using storytelling wisdom and simple truth to help us see another way. I will be listening again and again.

Death is not waiting for us at the end of a long road. Death is always with us, in the marrow of every passing moment. She is the secret teacher hiding in plain sight, helping us to discover what matters most. Life and death are a package deal. They cannot be pulled apart, and we cannot truly live unless we are aware of death. The Five Invitations is an exhilarating meditation on the meaning of life and how maintaining an ever-present consciousness of death can bring us closer to our truest selves.

This has got to be my favorite book. I have savored it, listening over and over.... sometimes the same chapter.
I listen to calm down, to find center, to reconnect with my own heart and soul. I recently listened to
help me sleep in the middle of the night, not because it is boring but because Franks' voice is honey.
And the stories are filled with wisdom, humanity, and truth. I am so grateful to have it on my phone so that
it is right there when driving, or waiting for an appt. It's a Five Soul book.
