Historia
Shai discovers he is a pathfinder and is desperate to find a genetically suitable partner to prevent his extrasensory talents from running amok. Unfortunately those talents make him a target for the brutal crime lords and other violent denizens, who inhabit the city of Nhil-Rhar. Shai needs to learn how to use his pathfinder senses - no matter how much they terrify him - before he's trapped in a partnership that will enslave him for the rest of his life.

Warnings - rape, underage sex, kidnapping.
This author and narrator make a great team. Once again, Dan Calley brings the story to life.
The futuristic world here seems bleak, but the main character, Shai, has found peace with his place in it - until he finds out that he is a Pathfinder and that everyone wants to control him because of his special ability to 'see' things, past and future.
Pathfinders were genetically created to have the 'seeing' ability, but it was found that they could become lost in the trance when they are 'seeing'. 'Guides' were created to help pull a Pathfinder back out of the trance, but they have to be bonded to each other for things to work.
And of course, the quickest way to establish a bond is though sex.
Shai's initial situation isn't good, with a Guide being chosen for him by 'the Agency'. His Guide is patient and explains how things work, but the fact still remains that Shai has no choice as to who his Guide will be.
Then things get worse as Shai gets kidnapped by another mob. Their Guide isn't so patient in getting the bond established.
I won't go more into the plot from there as it may spoil a few surprises.
I'm also glad to say that the next audio book in this series is out, and I already have my copy.

Excellent Plot, Perfect Narration
Revisado: 06-07-21
I have wanted to read this book for some time now, but because of poor eyesight, I had to wait until it became available in audio.
It was definitely worth the wait. Dan Calley did a wonderful job of narrating the voices of the different characters. I love the world building here, along with a decent balance between plot and sex. I enjoy when an author can keep me guessing, too, as to who the traitor really is.
I don't like spoilers so I can't say too much more other than I am glad I listened to the audio. Reading the book would have been good, but the story came to life with Dan's narration. I highly recommend it.
And I can't wait to hear more of Dan's narration in this series.

Even Better In Audio
Revisado: 11-15-19
Audiobook review. Narrator: Antony Ferguson
I read this book many years ago when it came out in paperback. While looking through Audible for new LGBT books, I was surprised to see this book out as an audiobook.
I've listed to Antony Ferguson narrator the Barker and Llewelyn series and love his voice, so I was quite happy that he was the narrator for this audiobook. He did a fantastic job although at the beginning I heard 'Barker' instead of 'Harper', but that's no fault of Mr Ferguson.
Although I had read the book before, it was so long ago that I'd forgotten many details. I did end up loving the story the second time around as much as I'd loved it the first. The book is actually in two parts: the first part is in the first-person POV of Belimai Sykes, a Prodigal descendant of ancient demons, and the second part is in the first-person POV of William Harper, a Captain in the Inquisition. The parts are sequential rather than concurrent.
The author does a great job of pulling the reader into a unique world by showing us how things work, which is not an easy thing to do with a world this complicated. My only 'complaint' is that the author hasn't written more in this universe. As far as I know, this is the only book. The universe is so rich with potential, I continue to hope that one day we'll have some back-stories of Prodigal lives.

Enjoyed this as much as the first

4.5 stars, rounded up to 5
This is book two in an offshoot series of the Bowl Of Souls. I still have not yet had time to read the Bowl of Souls series, but after finishing this second book, I really want to start so that I can get the background on many of the characters, or I should say, creatures, that live in the other world. I'd also like to know more about Tallow Jones' history.
It isn't necessary to have read the first book in order to enjoy this second one, but it will make the plot of the second one make more sense.
The narrator, TJ Clark, is a different one from the first book, but I can't say the changed bothered me. He did a great job with the different voices, including the female voices. Female voices sometimes are a challenge to many male narrators, so I'm always pleased when they're done well.
Again, like the first book, there were several places with point-of-view (POV) shifting without any natural break, resulting in my taking the 1/2 star off, but it certainly wasn't so bad that I was thrown out of the story.
I can't get much into the plot without giving too many things away, especially concerning the first book, but I will say this book just made me fall more in love with all the characters. I very much look forward to the next book in the series and hope that it will be available in audio book format.

When Detective Douglas Jones' son goes missing under strange circumstances, everyone assumes he ran away. The first break in the case comes when a long-lost relative shows up with a new name and a strange tattoo on the palm of his left hand. His name is Tallow Jones. He is a private detective... and a wizard. A wizard is needed too, because in Atlanta, strange abductions are just the tip of the iceberg.

Loved This - New Series For Me

Audiobook review. Narrator: Andrew Tell
4.5 stars, rounded up to 5
This was a fun, easy read. It is book 1 in a new offshoot series of the Bowl Of Souls. I am not familiar with the other books in the Bowl of Souls series so I had no idea of what to expect in this book. It takes place in our world but with 'magic' crossing over from another world. It's a missing person mystery on the surface, but gets complicated when Tallow Jones, Wizard Detective, enters the picture to help the police in their missing person search.
A plot twist, which happens about 2/3 rds of the way through, really took me by surprise. I love it when an author can do that, although maybe if I were familiar with the Bowl Of Souls universe I wouldn't have been so shocked by the turn of events.
The narrator also did a fantastic job with the different voices of the characters. I was never confused by who was doing the talking.
My only issue with the book, which is why I knocked it down by a 1/2 star, is that there were several places with point-of-view (POV) shifting without any natural break. In Chapter 6, for example, Doug and Ross, the two police detectives, are discussing Tallow Jones and it is from Doug's POV. Doug then gets a phone call and the POV suddenly switches from Doug to Ross. Now the reader is inside Ross' head, with Ross thinking he felt uncomfortable. There's another place I marked in Chapter 12, but I don't want to detail that here as it would contain spoilers. The switches are pretty quick, and overall mostly minor, with it flipping for just a sentence or two and then back. Most readers probably won't notice it, but it's something that jumps out at me and I can't ignore it.
The story is pretty much self contained but left open for more to be written in the series; I look forward to the next book and hope it will also be in audiobook form.

One Sex Scene After Another
Revisado: 06-12-19
This audiobook was almost 14 hours long. The first 13 hours were almost nothing but one sex scene after another, with about 5 minutes worth of plot interspersed between scenes. The sex scenes were very well written, and the narrator did an excellent job. The problem was that hours and hours and hours of sex make for a very boring book. The little plot that was there was actually pretty good, and overall, I'm glad I stuck it out, but it wasn't easy to do and I had to put my player speed on fast to get through it. I haven't yet had a DNF, but this one was the closest I've ever been.
I honestly considered returning it to Audible but I was 25 days past the year deadline, so I guess I'm stuck with it.

Fierce. Audacious. Independent. Curtis Ash can't be bothered to settle down. He's too busy enjoying his cushy job as a high-paid stylist, caught in a whirlwind of hookups, parties, and obscenely priced cocktails. The only snarl in an otherwise charmed life is the salon's hotshot colorist, Red Turner. Not only does Red put the whammy on customers and rake in all the big tips, he's oblivious to Crash's flirtation. But there will be plenty of time to win him over - or so Crash thinks.

Great Addition To The Series
Revisado: 01-06-18
Wow, what a great addition to the series. I actually think I like it the best of all the books. And you don't really need to know what goes on in the other prior 7 books to enjoy this story. As an audio book, it's the longest of them all too. Every time I thought the story would end, it just kept going - not that I was disappointed by that, not at all.
Crash has always been one of my favorite characters. Getting insight into him, his history, and his intimate thoughts and feelings concerning Jacob and Victor was amazing. The author's writing had definitely matured since that first PsyCop book. I didn't even cringe too much at Pugh's reading of Lisa, either, I was just so happy to get more of Crash's story.
This is a must read for anyone who is into the PsyCop series, and a great read for anyone else who is into M/M romance, a little bit of spiritualism, and an uplifting ending.

Audio book review. Narrator: Matthew Lloyd Davies
I am loving this series very much. I like how the second book is new and refreshing, yet ties into the first book with having some of the same characters.
The two main characters come together in a believable way, too - none of that 'falling in love at first sight' nonsense that so many m/m romance books use.
Can't wait for book 3 to be available as an audio book!

Great Short Story - I Want More
Revisado: 10-11-17
Audio book review - narrator: Gomez Pugh.
Although a short story, the author did a great job on character development, world building, and plot. And with Gomez Pugh as the narrator, I had to give it five stars. I really wasn't expecting things to go the way they did. I always love it when an author can take me by surprise. Be warned (or enticed): explicit, hot m/m sex scene.

Would Love to Have More In This Universe
Revisado: 10-01-17
Enjoyable book. Sci-fi assassin whose given up his memories for 10 years to become an elite assassin. At the end of 10 years, if he lives, he's to get his life and memories back. Some memories have started to 'leak' through, and he begins a search for who he was before the memory wipe. Of course not all is as it seems, but the ending certainly wasn't what I was expecting. I love it when a writer takes me by surprise.
The story is self-contained yet ends with the possibility of a sequel. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next audio book.
