Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Historia
Being an unwanted twin in the Imperial line of succession, Farilane became a scholar, adventurer, and in a time when reading was once more forbidden—a book hunter. Her singular obsession is finding the mythical Book of Brin, a tome not just lost but intentionally buried. Respected and beloved by the Teshlor Knights, not even their legendary skills can protect her for what she finds is more dangerous than what she sought.

Noooo! Yes.
Revisado: 09-24-22
I loved this book but I wanted to hate it. Farilane quickly became my favorite character in the whole series of these books. Her quick deductions and quick whit drew me in and I loved all the tiny revelations that cleared up so many things. I also liked how she got so many things wrong about the history arc, and that if you are an avid reader of these books you felt like you had some inside knowledge that she was missing. But she eventually got there. So then the end…. When I finally realized what was happening all I could say was NOOOOO! But really, after thinking about it, I came to realize it was masterfully done. Out of the hundreds of books I’ve listened to I’ve only written a review on maybe half a dozen because they were either really bad or really amazing. This falls into the latter category. Here is a feather for you Mr. Sullivan.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Sooooooo Good!
Revisado: 08-18-21
I lived the Martian and could not make it through Artemis so I wasn’t sure if I’d like this one. I am so glad I have it a try as it was spectacular!
Weir does such a good job with first person, really getting inside the thoughts an emotions. I enjoyed thinking about what it would be like to be alone trying to save the world and then seeing the main character’s approach and struggles. I also really liked the interaction with… well you will have to read it to find out but it’s so worth it!

Some reviews said this was a slow read and terribly written. I didn’t find that at all. I liked the development pace and enjoyed seeing things from the dragon’s perspective. It was a fun listen.

Great story, foul language
Revisado: 08-24-20
I had high hopes for this one. I rally love the concept and the story but there was an f-bomb and other foul language pretty much constantly. It is frustrating when a good story is ruined by a lack of imaginative vocabulary. Sadly I am returning this one.

Revisado: 10-31-17
I didn’t think I would but I ended up loving this book. What a genius of obscure 80s songs and games. At times I found myself zooming back through the years to land in front of the Atari or arcade. Tons of fun. Read it.

Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

A Spoonful of Honey
Revisado: 10-12-17
What an incredible story with layers upon layers of subtle growth, interaction and kindness.
Towles did a spectacular job making every piece of the story come to life and used the smallest details to change courses entirely. Who would have guessed that a spoonful of honey could save a life, convey so much meaning and move the reader to both smile and cry at such a small but grand gesture?
I honestly thought I would be bored to tears reading of a life of captivity in a hotel. On the contrary, I learned that contentment and joy are more closely tied to perspective and attitude than to circumstance.

Historia
In a world full of super powers, Felix has a pretty crappy one. He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. With that in mind, Felix settled into a normal life. A normal job. His entire world changes when the city he lives in is taken over by a super villain. Becoming a country of one city. A city state.

Hard to put down
Revisado: 07-25-17
So, there was a good deal of cussing but the story was unique. The fast pace kept it fun. The points system was interesting but got old fast. It would have been better to abbreviate that component significantly. Don't read this book if you are on a diet... pancakes!

Historia
It’s 2011, and Samuel Andresen-Anderson—college professor, stalled writer—has a Nix of his own: his mother, Faye. He hasn’t seen her in decades, not since she abandoned the family when he was a boy. Now she’s re-appeared, having committed an absurd crime that electrifies the nightly news, beguiles the internet, and inflames a politically divided country. The media paints Faye as a radical hippie with a sordid past, but as far as Samuel knows, his mother was an ordinary girl who married her high-school sweetheart.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.
