Subject Interesting...Narration the pits.....
Revisado: 05-14-12
The subject is very interesting especially from it's source. This book could've been great BUT....the book is written and narrated for someone in grade school. It is true the narration is so robot like I... had.... to... BEEP.... laugh! It appears that the narrator was told to read very slowly, pronounce every syllable and remember he is not reading to intellectuals ...he ...is...so.. detached from the reading as if he was just learning the English language and didn't understand the words.... which is too bad. Get a new writer and narrator- the book still has some legs to make it worthwhile. The book reminds me of reading Dave's Story of Wendy's hamburger fame..... grade school level writing.

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

In life and fiction not everything gets answered..
Revisado: 12-29-11
A wonderful listening experience. I listened to her first book "Faithful Place" and loved it and couldn't wait to download this book. Once again the writing is terrific I loved the multiple story lines. There are so many clever drops of information on how past experiences of the detectives are used to make you think twice when you are trying to figure out who done what to who. It has the feeling of the dark gritty work of Patricia Highsmith's "The Talented Mr. Ripley" Stayed up till 5 am to finish the 3rd part of the reading to see how it would conclude.
As for the story lines, not all being solved in a tidy package, yep I felt disappointed but it's an unique feeling, because not everything is like "Hollywood like" where we should have closure, sometimes leaving with the desire wanting more ... is just that...life a bit of sadness and heartbreak.

The best is having Woody Allen reading his own material. Very entertaining!! I enjoyed the short stories and the dilemmas his characters get in, all too funny!

A bit too graphic and the story seemed so slow in the beginning to get to the main plot. First book I gave up on.

Historia
In Long Island, a farmer found a duck pond turned red with blood. On the Lower East Side, two boys playing at a pier discovered a floating human torso wrapped tightly in oilcloth. Blueberry pickers near Harlem stumbled upon neatly severed limbs in an overgrown ditch. Clues to a horrifying crime were turning up all over New York, but the police were baffled: There were no witnesses, no motives, no suspects. The grisly finds that began on the afternoon of June 26, 1897, plunged detectives headlong into the era's most perplexing murder.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 11-28-11
I could listen to this story more than once, first for fast paced and interesting story and then the wonderful narrative reading. The story does get bit a graphic on the details of the murder but what would you expect, it's about a murder. The story never slows up and you are placed into that time period with fluidity of the story's timeline. I loved learning about the history of the papers and really enjoyed the writer including the epilogue. I will go out and buy the book to see if I missed anything. I love a book that makes you want to do more research on the time period because it opens your eyes to a different time.

Revisado: 04-25-10
The story is inconceivable but unfortunately true. You feel like the story is happening with you in the room. The writing is great and the narration is perfect. All I can say is wow and if you are on the fence about listening to behind the scenes of the financial mess, get this book. I thought I already heard it before but this book makes your hands sweat with the stress of hearing the downfall of America's old established financial giants. Wow!

Historia
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

I now can say Vagina
Revisado: 01-18-10
Ok, I got this because I heard about the reviews...
It's a "close" look of short stories of women and how they view their vagina, ok.... some of the stories are funny, gross and then finally you say enough already, I'm exhausted of hearing Vagina every 3rd word. The writer/narrator can be a bit shrill.
