Historia
Every modern city has one week’s worth of food to feed itself. Then it will collapse. Cut off the resources to New York, Sydney, or even a mid-size metropolis, and millions will soon starve. In Zero Day Code we see those immense and open, hyper-complex, networked supercities of the new millennium die. And in the last moments we see their vengeance take form as all the best and worst traits of humanity bubble to the surface.

ok guys. it's not a bad story. the issue is it's just not a complete story. you have here only the start of a story which just sort of ends randomly.
it has some interesting bits but it is NOT a completed book. it's just a preview

Not a bad book but it wasn't great.
Revisado: 09-20-22
Like many readers I found this series after seeing the series on amazon prime. This book had it's moments, but I found myself drifting and having to relisten to parts
The prose feels a bit wooden to me and the story just didn't suck me in.
I appreciated the changes the TV writers made to the story, such as making it seem like maybe he was the one who killed his own family etc.... it did a great job building tension in the story. The story itself in the first one just seemed more like a dry retelling of the events "This happened, then this happened" without the drama I would want
I felt this book, without a TV series yet produced for me to compare it to, just lost my interest in the telling.. so I won't be continuing to book 3.
Again not a bad book, just not my cup of tea. I thank the author for his service.

A little bit immature... wasn't a bad story
Revisado: 02-02-15
Any additional comments?
Ultimately my journey with this series ends here. The story wasn't awful, and I got the book on sale for $5. It's not good enough for a credit but I would consider getting the second one if it was on sale.
It reminds me of a story a bunch of drunk teens might write if they were hanging out in their mom's basement.
A robot arm destroys some guys entire family and 5 minutes later he wants to get down and dirty with some stranger. That's just the kind of stuff that you write up while laughing like Beavis and Butthead.
Nothing wrong with some mindless action here and there, but it's sort of average. I'll keep looking for something more compelling.

Revisado: 02-02-15
Any additional comments?
I always liked this story. Sure it has it's problems and also I understand people don't like Orson Scott Card's personal politics... ok I get all that.
This version still stands out! Great audio-drama and an awesome new way to revisit this story. I wish more of my favorite books would re-release in this format. Imagine lord of the rings as a full cast audio-drama?
Ok, so my recommendation is if you liked Ender's game this is going to be a great way to revisit that story. Don't buy this if you hated Ender's game as obviously you still aren't going to like it.
I would read or listen to Ender's game first before I listened to this version. This, to me, is a great bonus for the fans of that story.

Passes the time, but far from great
Revisado: 02-02-15
Any additional comments?
OK so I finished the legion of the damned series. To me these are filler books that I listened to while I waited for more credits to arrive or a decent audible $5 sale to come up. I got the first one in a $5 sale and it was "good enough" for me to get through them.
It's not bad, but it's very dry. It's reads more like a text book than a novel. Character X did Y. Character A did B.
Basically it's more of a narration of events than a story. The events themselves are somewhat interesting, and the tech isn't too outlandish. You do have some issues like "with all this tech why are the battles so primitive?"
So basically if you can accept the belief that in the far flung future warfare has basically devolved to WW2 levels of sophistication + cyborgs then you can get a little bit of enjoyment from this series.
If your looking for a series of "can't put it down" novels then this isn't going to cut it.
It's filler material that passes the time. Plain and simple. Not terrible but certainly not great.

Up for a bit of nostalgia? keep looking....
Revisado: 02-02-15
Any additional comments?
As a 37 year old man, of course the movie "the never ending story" brings up warm and fuzzy memories. It was a great movie and is still great when you go back and view it again as an adult.
When this book went on a sale for $5 I decided to pick up a copy just for fun. As an avid reader I almost always love the book better than the movie.
I realize this is a children's book, but it was just bad. What was especially torturous was the second half of the book, I decided, in the end to just not finish this.
Stick with the movie if you want a quick jolt of warm and fuzzy childhood nostalgia. The book just isn't going to work for you.

What the heck am I reading?
Revisado: 02-02-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A story that wasn't insanely boring.
Any additional comments?
This might have been a great book. I'm not really sure, I kept drifting off during this book. Thinking about groceries, work, my to-do list at home. When I would go back into the book there would be some new character I had never heard before doing or talking about something in their world I didn't really care about.
There is some pilgrimage, there are a lot of characters, you learn about a lot of strange religions and theoretical jumps in human evolution.
This void is out there, where people have some dreams or something.
Then you lose interest, and find yourself rewinding the same chapter over and over again to figure out what the heck is going on.
Your quest is futile, it's just too boring. Your consciousness is in and out with only 5 minutes of listening time randomly per 30 minutes of content.
bla bla bla bla bla .... some description of a brand new character talking about uploading their brain to the internet... bla bla bla bla bla... some lady is shopping for robots with a sales clerk who is 6 people at once... bla bla bla.... we are on a ship where some people dream a lot.... bla bla bla...
I'm 60% into the book and I literally have no idea what is going on.

The future should have been perfect. Microscopic robots known as nans could repair any damage to your body, keep you young by resetting your cellular clocks, and allow you to download upgrades like intelligence, muscle strength, and eyesight. You were supposed to be able to have anything you wanted with a simple thought, to be able to fly without the aid of a machine, to be able to live forever. But when a small group of five terraformers working on Venus return to Earth, they discover that every other human in the solar system has been gruesomely murdered.

No the worst, but far from the best
Revisado: 02-02-15
Would you ever listen to anything by David Simpson again?
Yes, I am currently listening to the breakers series w/ David Simpson. My biggest issue with Mr. Simpson is that he chooses one character in every series to growl non-stop. In the "post-human" series that character is "Old Timer"
I'm not sure what's up with that, but it gets old real fast. Nobody talks like that 24-7.
Any additional comments?
This book just had a lot of ridiculousness in it. I was having trouble suspending my disbelief while reading this series. It wasn't an awful book by any means, but it also just wasn't compelling enough for me to continue.
In a nutshell, having lots of large global scale events doesn't make up for the fact that the characters are uninteresting. This is re-enforced by the voice acting, where the main character talks as if he were trying to imitate a lion the entire time.
As a computer programmer, I don't get the main frame thing.. it's just boring to me... distributed computing exists so why would the AI hole themselves up in one big, vulnerable computer?
At the end of the day I noticed there were 5 books in this series so I decided it was time to cut my losses and move onto something else.
