Historia
In 1518, in a small town in Alsace, Frau Troffea began dancing and didn't stop. She danced until she was carried away six days later, and soon 34 more villagers joined her. Then more. In a month more than 400 people had been stricken by the mysterious dancing plague. In late-19th-century England an eccentric gentleman founded the No Nose Club in his gracious townhome - a social club for those who had lost their noses, and other body parts, to the plague of syphilis for which there was then no cure.

Delightful tour of maladies
Revisado: 09-11-17
Informative book with solid narration. A general light heartedness throughout but not tone deaf to gravity of suffering. The book is really an expose on human ignorance with highlights of fractional ingenuity.

Well argued case for secularism and liberalism for Muslims. Also, a breadth of information for non-Islamic readers/listeners.

Deceptive Title
Revisado: 07-06-17
Recommendations for retaining knowledge and test taking are good but not specific to math and science. Don't expect to learn any math. Like most books, it could be a little shorter.

Historia
With Barack Obama's historic election in 2008, pundits proclaimed the Republicans as dead as the Whigs of yesteryear. Yet even as Democrats swooned, a small cadre of Republican operatives, including Karl Rove, Ed Gillespie, and Chris Jankowski, began plotting their comeback with a simple yet ingenious plan. These men had devised a way to take a tradition of dirty tricks - known to political insiders as "ratf**king" - to a whole new unprecedented level.

There aren't enough stars for the importance of this invaluable contribution. Sure, 1984 is a great book and sales have increased but 1984 won't tell you how you're being f**ked in the dystopian present. Read this, get mad, tell others, plan, and carry out action.

Historia
When Bernie Sanders began his race for the presidency, it was considered by the political establishment and the media to be a "fringe" campaign, something not to be taken seriously. After all, he was just an independent senator from a small state with little name recognition. His campaign had no money, no political organization, and it was taking on the entire Democratic Party establishment. By the time Sanders' campaign came to a close, however, it was clear that the pundits had gotten it wrong.

Just Great
Revisado: 02-22-17
Inspiration &, more important to me, tons of info that explains why we need to act and some solutions to the problems.
I knocked a star off performance since Sanders did not read the whole book and Ruffalo just didn't do it for me (despite my general liking of him).

Historia
Most people, including many policy makers, activists, scientists, and philosophers, have encouraged us to be more empathetic - to feel the pain and pleasure of others. Yale researcher and author Paul Bloom argues that this is a mistake. Far from leading us to improve the lives of others, empathy is a capricious and irrational emotion that appeals to our narrow prejudices. It muddles our judgment and often leads to cruelty. We are at our best when we are smart enough not to rely on it and draw upon a more distanced compassion.

Love Paul Bloom
Revisado: 02-10-17
I always love when Paul visits one of the several podcasts I listen to. He's insightful, thought provoking, and down to earth.
The performer was fine (and would have been great in a different context) but I would have preferred listening to Paul - it was a little odd listening to a female speaker with British(?) accent when I'm so used to hearing his (very American) voice on podcasts and videos.

Historia
Philosophy begins with questions about the nature of reality and how we should live. These were the concerns of Socrates, who spent his days in the ancient Athenian marketplace asking awkward questions, disconcerting the people he met by showing them how little they genuinely understood. This engaging book introduces the great thinkers in Western philosophy and explores their most compelling ideas about the world and how best to live in it.

Great Overview
Revisado: 09-05-16
This is a wonderful overview/introduction to philosophy. The chapters are short - each one dedicated to a philosopher and his/her most notable or commonly known contributions. I like how the author will give the criticisms of some of the more debunked postulations. I highly recommend for anyone not already versed in philosophy. You don't need prior study to appreciate this.
