The Poet X is a beautiful heart-felt story best absorbed on audio. The author reads her own work which gives readers the added bonus of knowing pronunciation and details are authentic. I was completely absorbed by the rhythm and words, such a wonderful book!

As always, Jacqueline Woodson has created a world I wanted to stay in for hours. At just under four hours, I felt like the audiobook was beautiful and wonderful but I wanted it to go on for hours more. Living in the world of these characters was compelling and a beautiful experience. The narrators were excellent and gave a sense of each character. Can't wait for her next effort!

I was really looking forward to this book based on the description of the story. Unfortunately the execution didn't work. The odd disjoined writing style, the rambling story, the unlikable characters, the trite way the mystery of her brother's disappearance and the strange ending really weren't for me. I don't know what this writing style would be called (and I'd love to know so I avoid it in the future). The narrator was good but she certainly couldn't salvage the story.

But this isn't my favorite. I found the characters flat and felt little empathy for them. I really wanted to like this one (and I should have liked it), but I didn't. It has a great premise and a fascinating concept. It's set in an amazing place during an interesting time in history but it didn't work for me.

I loved The Hate You Give and wasn't sure how the author could follow Starr's story. On the Come UP is in the same neighborhood but with very different characters. I'm not a rap fan but I really enjoyed the poetry and songs and the challenges Bri and her family face. Great narration and compelling characters make this a five-star read!

I believe this is the author's debut. I had listened to her "Half of a Yellow Sun" and was fascinated by the history of Bangladesh. This was just as fascinating though painful.

Kate Quinn is an amazing author and researcher. Saskla Maarleveld is an incredible narrator. The two together make this a fascinating and moving read. This kept me fascinated during a two-hour holiday construction traffic jam. I knew nothing about the Russian female pilots/navigators during WW2 and this made me want to know more, a lot more, about the Night Witches. Delicious, suspenseful, engaging. One of the best for the year I'm sure!

Having different voices for each of the many characters made it easy to follow the changing directions in this book. Sometimes though I wish I had a print book so I could go back and remind myself of how the different people were related but that's more about my attention than the quality of the book. I didn't know much about modern-day Native Americans so this was a fascinating read!

I am a big fan of the Obamas and this memoir made me admire them even more. Her long-time commitment to her goals and improving our world is rooted in her upbringing and her family's commitment to her success. I can't imagine anyone else narrating it!

Unlike Tana French's Murder Squad books, The Witch Elm is more of a suspense/family drama/personal story. With many twists and turns, and a very unreliable narrator, the book held my attention for hours. The narration was fantastic. Each character had a distinct voice and personality. A truly captivating story exceptionally narrated by Paul Nugent
