Unique magical world with an annoying HEERTH

I'm about half way through and enjoying the unique magical world of Elsbeth. She doesn't seem too whiny to me, and the pacing of the romance makes sense based on the fact that this doesn't seem like an epic tale involving 3+ books of several hundred pages. The reader is also pretty decent, but her mispronunciation of the word "hearth" is kind of maddening. Given the surprisingly frequent use of this word in the story, the mispronunciation of it is absolutely driving me to distraction!

Unique (and surprisingly hot) fantasy

I enjoyed the unique plot with familiar fantasy staples (dragons, magic, and evil monsters). I thought it was more of a YA romance until about chapter 30, when things got steamier than I expected. Very hot and definitely not YA. The narration was good and engaging. It was a refreshingly original listen for me in both the fantasy and romance genres.

Court of Thorns and Roses Lite

Storyline tracks like a lite version of the Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. If you're familiar with that series, this one is predictable. The Lochlann Feuds series is shorter, with less-developed characters and almost zero fantasy element by comparison. It's not entirely without entertainment value, and the female narrator is decent. I am a little confused by the British- and Russian-esque accents she uses for the characters, though. I don't really get that choice given the Scottish-sounding title. All told a mediocre listen, but not a total snooze.

Rushed story and narration

I struggled to finish this one. Both the story and the narration seemed rushed. The plot had potential, but the characters were undeveloped (and utterly insipid in the case of the h), and the story progressed at such a breakneck pace it was nearly incoherent. The narration made it worse. The reader rarely paused, changed her voice between characters, or otherwise used inflection to control the pace. I do not recommend this audiobook at all.

A nice addition to the series

This story started off a little slow for me, but it eventually got just as interesting and exciting as the previous books in the series, which I love. There was too much of Nesta brooding and being nasty to everyone at the start. I get that it was character development and build up to her big turnaround, but it went on for much longer than I thought necessary. The erotic scenes were hot but the reader got waaaaay too into them. Her overly-excited performance was laughable and distracting. It definitely detracted from the eroticism for me, which was disappointing. Overall, this installment kept me interested in the series and its characters, and I will continue following it.

A total let down!

This sequel was a total let down. The plot development was somehow both rushed and slow. The dialogue was innane and repetitive, and the main characters became one-dimensional and annoying. Even the love scenes seemed forced and bland. It felt like either a different author wrote this, or Lisa Renee Jones was pressed to deliver this book before it was ready. I really hope that is not the case with the final installment in the series.

Boring story, mediocre writing

I struggled to finish this story. The characters and romance were poorly developed, and neither of the main characters were particularly likeable. The female lead (Charlie) initially seemed like she had Tourette's syndrome or something, and her internal monologue was often confusing. The sex scenes were rather tame and not, well, very sexy. The conflict between Charlie and Reese (the male lead) seemed forced. Compared to stories by my favorite romance authors (Vi Keeland, Emma Chase, L.J. Shen, Lexi Blake, C.D. Reiss et al.), this did not measure up.

Very entertaining series

Holly Black brought Jude's story to a satisfying end in The Queen of Nothing and tied up all of the loose threads. There was enough of a plot twist to keep things entertaining without overcomplicating things or attempting to squeeze too much in to the final installment. There wasn't much by way of character development; it seemed clear that Black considered everyone fleshed out at this stage and ready to play their final roles. The narrator was a bit slow and almost lilting in her delivery at times, but speeding up the playback a bit helped with that.
