Great backstory for two beloved characters
Revisado: 09-19-24
Once again, Ms. Taylor has graced us with her brilliant mind and amazing storytelling capabilities. She has infused these two peripheral characters with a believable and appropriate backstory with the same wit and verve as she has with the rest of the series. Brava! Dare I say “encore”?

Suspenseful to the VERY end!

Great characters, left me sad but satisfied. Really wanted better for some of the main players, but it was beautifully written and the narration was superb.

Historia
Following the events in Network Effect, the Barish-Estranza corporation has sent rescue ships to a newly colonized planet in peril, as well as additional SecUnits. But if there's an ethical corporation out there, Murderbot has yet to find it, and if Barish-Estranza can't have the planet, they're sure as hell not leaving without something. If that something just happens to be an entire colony of humans, well, a free workforce is a decent runner-up prize. But there's something wrong with Murderbot; it isn't running within normal operational parameters.

Best Sci-Fi Storyline out there.
Revisado: 11-16-23
Martha Wells has done it again. Teasing out tiny bits of humanity from Murderbot is a joy to listen to. The sarcasm doesn’t hurt either. Kevin’s narration is also amazing as he strikes the perfect tone throughout. Masterful.

Revisado: 06-26-23
Lots of surprises, and of course perfect narration by Zara Ramm make this particular installment a must here. Many loose ends are tied up, but others have new wrinkles added. A masterful work.

Best of the series, and that’s saying quite a lot!
Revisado: 12-08-22
This has been the most comprehensive and compelling book in the series. The final chapters left me breathless. I love how she pulls from previous storylines, but always in a new and innovative way.
Brava!

Historia
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

Juliet Stevenson is perfection itself in her narration!
Revisado: 07-16-16
Having never read any of George Eliot's works previously, I was not sure what to expect. I was thrilled to discover the nuance, detail, and vivid emotions that came through the text, in no small part due to the excellent narration by Juliet Stevenson, a longtime favorite of mine.
If you enjoy the works of Jane Austen, you will adore "Middlemarch".

Historia
Beautiful, sophisticated and endlessly ambitious Lily Bart endeavours to climb the social ladder of New York's elite by securing a good match and living beyond her means. Now nearing 30 years of age and having rejected several proposals, forever in the hope of finding someone better, her future prospects are threatened. A damning commentary of 20th-century social order, Edith Wharton's tale established her as one of the greatest British novelists of the 1900s.

A performance worthy of the material. Brilliant!
Revisado: 03-01-15
While I had seen the film adaptation of this book, it pales in comparison to the book. The narrator could not have been better as her tone and subtleties very much lent themselves to the storyline.
Although I knew the ending going in, I still kept hoping for a different outcome. That is how engrossing this experience was for me.

Shockingly bad - I could not finish
Revisado: 02-19-15
I was hoping for an engaging romp based on the book description, but what I got was so insipid and poorly written that I finally had to shut it off and delete it. An idiotic and unbelievable plot line coupled with characters so shallow and odious that it was near torture to continue listening. This author must have had some very bad experiences with men for her to write this kind of dreck. Ugh!

Terribly over-simplistic.
Revisado: 10-20-13
While I can certainly see a niche for this story, I felt that the lack of contrary characters and the broad strokes that paint most of the population did not ring true in any sense. I often caught myself rolling my eyes at some of the subplots and exploits of the heroine. There is a story to be told, but it needs more flesh on its bones, and a much richer view of the human backdrop as opposed to the mindless sheep it purports us all to be.
