The early chapters were captivating, filled with rich details and political intrigue. However, the story quickly dragged in parts. The redundancy of "arms akimbo and the sun gods rise in the mornings) made it hard to push through at times. Still, the plot itself was too good to abandon, and I found myself listening until the very end. It is like eating a meal with too much sauce, overwhelming at moments but ultimately satisfying.

I can’t praise this book enough. The blend of storytelling and meticulous research brings old-world moral lessons to life with sharp wit and clever banter. The life lessons woven throughout make it an unforgettable read. If you’re looking for something fresh and distinct from the usual Tudor or English historical fiction about strong queens, this is it. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

While I usually refrain from writing negative reviews, I must say that this book was a disappointment. As a fan of mythology, I expected it to be on par with "Circe," but it fell short in many ways. Set in modern times, the portrayal of Persephone as a feminist with a rebellious streak seemed promising at first. However, the constant focus on makeup, gossip, and Hades' appearance overshadowed any deeper exploration of feminine struggles or societal pressures. I tried to finish the book, but ultimately, it was so unsatisfying that I couldn't bring myself to do so.

This book truly embraces the numerous faces and personalities women embody, highlighting the various roles they play and the societal expectations they navigate.

From the very beginning, I found myself devouring the pages. The author fearlessly confronts the labels placed on women, whether it's being regarded as a mother, manipulator, whore, wife, vengeful spirit, worrier, hag, or maid. Through the characters, we witness the struggles and triumphs of these identities, realizing that at times, women can embody all, some, or none of these labels.

At times, I must admit, the constant nagging and spitefulness between the sisters became a bit tiresome. However, I implore readers to persevere, for beneath the surface lies a profound message that unfolds beautifully. The book challenges us to confront the difficult truths that women face, and it does so unapologetically. Some parts were uncomfortable to listen to, but I believe that discomfort is crucial for understanding the voices of others, even when they are hard to hear.

Medusa Sisters, successfully captures the essence of women's struggles, offering a thought-provoking exploration of the multifaceted lives we lead. It encourages empathy, understanding, and appreciation for the diverse experiences and emotions that women navigate daily. Great listen!

Keep at it. Ms Taylor has successfully evolved the St Mary’s story. Just like Max, Ms Taylor is just getting started. The story is great fun, smart, and full of surprises. It takes skill to continue a story and for it to remain relevant. So far, Max and St Mary have still got it. Bang up job!

I enjoyed Alison Weir’s previous works. However, I found the list of items given at feast days by the various queens and kings to their children tedious. I felt that the author assumed the audience either read her previous works, and didn’t bother with the “story” of each queen. Neither am I sure how any of the queens stories relates to the crusades, other than they happen to be queens during that period of time.

I understand that most historical novel follow a chronological order which may seem outdated and overused. In my opinion, the Middle Ages is something that should follow a timeline. This book groups the Middle Ages by “noun categories/stakeholders” such as monks, merchants, navigators, knights, etc. I did appreciate that he tied the historical events of England in late 1300s with what was going on in Constantinople around the same time. The book did a great job of describing the political, climatic, artistic etc atmosphere of a certain point in time and place.

The story mixes historical events from different disciplines. What a treat. The narration is rich in tone, without being annoying. Highly recommend.
