This Carr Goes the Distance

Another intriguing locked room mystery from the master of the locked room mystery. Loads of red herrings mixed in with all the clues. Top-notch performance by the narrator. Most importantly, Till Death Do Us Part is a fun read.

This was a really fun audiobook. I almost always enjoy John Scalzi‘s work and Wil Wheaton does a great job with The sarcasm and wordplay. I know I will listen to this one several times.

Another wonderful effort by Mr. Osman

Like so many others, I feel strongly that Leslie Manville’s performance was a fantastic fit for these characters. I am a big Fiona Shaw fan. I think she’s a fabulous actress. But for these particular characters seems to me to bethe right fit. The story is compelling on so many levels. The author brings his considerable comedic talent to bear, producing great belly laugh moments. The scenes exploring the relationship between Stephen and Elizabeth brought tears to my eyes.

Consistently Good

Mr. Robinson has maintained a consistently high standard of quality in the long-running Alan Banks series. I can’t recall a single dud. The recurring characters are well developed and engaging. The mysteries are well-plotted and researched. The Yorkshire setting is so nicely captured that it seems like a character all its own. In this book, much of the action takes place in Estonia. That’s a real bonus.

When we last saw DC, er David, It seemed as if his last chapter may have been written. Not so! With The Truth, the door to a return of our favorite detective sergeant, or PI, appears to be wide open! Peter Granger’s masterful detective is wonderfully realized by the enormously talented Gildart Jackson. Bravo gentlemen!

Big disappointment

I enjoyed the earlier novels in this series. They always included a moderate dose of political evangelism. Unfortunately this novel is mostly unbalanced political diatribe that makes heavy use of the strawman technique. The ghostly thin plot, when one can find it, is flat and boring. Let us hope the author has exorcised his political demons and that the next installment in the Bruno series returns to form.
