Historia
Every investment plan under the sun is, at best, an informed speculation of what may happen in the future, based on a systematic extrapolation from the known past. Same as Ever reverses the process, inviting us to identify the many things that never, ever change. With his usual elan, Morgan Housel presents a master class on optimizing risk, seizing opportunity, and living your best life. Through a sequence of engaging stories and pithy examples, he shows how we can use our newfound grasp of the unchanging to see around corners.

Historia
The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. That these are the same person sounds like the setup to a joke, but this is no joke. This is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And this did not happen by accident. Arnold’s stratospheric success happened as part of a process. As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

Be open to the idea
Revisado: 01-29-25
Sometimes we just assume people aren’t lying because of their past. No one is above it. The author gives great tools to identify lying and also discusses the risk of assuming every twitch f the eye or nervous laugh indicates a lie has been told. But for us in the field of lie detection this is a must read.

The story is far-fetched and also anti-climactic
Revisado: 01-14-25
I got through the whole book. I think I understand why other people really like it. I really enjoy good science-fiction, and good fantasy. So a story being far-fetched is not really a concern. However, I was mostly disappointed with the seemingly casual resolution, after such a long story line, indicating something would be greater and grander for the resolution.

Historia
In The Conservative Heart, Arthur C. Brooks contends that after years of focusing on economic growth and traditional social values, it is time for a new kind of conservatism - one that helps the vulnerable without mortgaging our children's future. In Brooks' daring vision, this conservative movement fights poverty, promotes equal opportunity, celebrates earned success, and values spiritual enlightenment. It is an inclusive movement with a positive agenda to help people lead happier, more hopeful, and more satisfied lives.

When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

Revisado: 11-08-24
Isaacson always does a fantastic job of putting the inventor in context to portray the true genius of the person. This book is no exception. The interesting thing about this book is I have seen, along with the rest of the world, the meteoric rise of Elon Musk.
I didn’t know anything about his personal life and this book covers that. It does not excuse or avoid his warts.
Isaacson with another triumph! Thank you for the effort you took in writing this book so well.

Come inside a jury room as one juror leads a starkly divided room to consensus. Join a young CIA officer as he recruits a reluctant foreign agent. And sit with an accomplished surgeon as he tries, and fails, to convince yet another cancer patient to opt for the less risky course of treatment. In Supercommunicators, Charles Duhigg blends deep research and his trademark storytelling skills to show how we can all learn to identify and leverage the hidden layers that lurk beneath every conversation.

Which thing I never had supposed.
Revisado: 10-02-24
I am a lawyer, a judge, I have served as a Bishop in my congregation. I have given many visiting lectures in elementary schools and before educated groups of lawyers. I have many markers in my life that would indicate I am a good communicator. This book opened up new pathways for me and I can attest has already dramatically improved at least my personal communications. I believe it has also improved my group communication to a degree. It’s definitely a book I am going to reread. Thank you for your effort in writing this book!

Historia
As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?
