First came the news that a flying saucer had landed in Iowa. Then came the announcement that the whole thing was a hoax. End of story. Case closed. Except that two agents of the most secret intelligence agency in the US government were on the scene and disappeared without reporting in. And four more agents who were sent in also disappeared. sexist and clunky

couldn't finish what could have potentially been an interesting story. The women were all merely props for the main character to possess and letch after. the anti-communist sentiment could have been more thought provoking, but it was hamfisted at best.
The reader on the other hand... chef's kiss! Read better books, friend.

so. dang. good. CWs in review.

CW: There is physical and psychological violence against women, children and animals, as well as sexual violence against women and implied sexual violence against children. There are also many horror elements such as gore, mental health issues
That being said, what an absolutely wonderful story. the voice acting was fantastic, the pacing and story kept my glued to audible for a couple of days. I highly recommend a listen.

very technical, but fun
Revisado: 06-18-21
though it kind of felt miscast, will Wheaton does a fine job narrating a fun book. I think the main character was supposed to come off as an asshole, and Wheaton is just too sweet for that. nonetheless, the narration was lively and engaging, and kept me interested even in the more technical parts where it would be harder to pay attention otherwise.
the book itself, while there was a lot of tech stuff, was VERY well researched, and you could tell the author had a lot of fun writing the characters and dialog, and that the research and technical stuff was a labor of love.

I greatly enjoyed the story, and while the reader did mispronounce a word near the beginning, he more than makes up for it with enthusiasm and a wide variety of entertaining voices.

world building and depth of character are really well done here. The language of the book moves swiftly and keeps the listener engaged. the reader was perfectly cast, and her character voices were interesting and diverse without being too over the top.

I enjoyed this story very much. the reader did a great job at portraying all characters and their emotional states. tension and terror were well placed by the author, and we'll played by the reader.
⚠️ this may not be the book for you if you are deeply troubled by depictions of gore, violence, or animal harm.

good book, terrible narration
Revisado: 01-16-21
the book itself is wonderful, and I would highly recommend checking out the author's podcast (the fat feminist witch). The book and podcast are down to earth, earnest, and easy to relate to.
The melodramatic reading of the book however, absolutely falls short. the reader sounds like she is reading a fantasy book for 4-year-olds. The reading completely lacks the relatable honestly that Paige Vanderbeck writes and speaks with.

great book, mismatched narration
Revisado: 10-29-20
This book was fantastic! I really appreciated the concept as both a fiber artist and a witch. I also loved that the author gives you the tools and resources all while encouraging the reader to find their own path. Unlike many witchy books I've read, Weave The Liminal is neither preachy nor stiff, yet it contains a wealth of information.
Unfortunately, the narration DID sound preachy and stiff, and was tonally completely different from the book itself. I would have preferred a narrator with a much more casual and less matronly voice.
Emily Beresford is not a terrible reader, but the casting was terrible. This reader would be much better suited to fiction.
