I have read greek historical novels before and usually love greek mythology. This was well written and the depiction of their relationship was interesting. My problem was the elements of the story that were supposed to be heavy with emotion didn’t land for me. Maybe I’m dead inside.

I exclusively read gay novels and hadn’t used my audible credits for a while. When I launched the app to see what I might try, audible recommended this to me I’m guessing because it was a gay fantasy.
It was incredible! Love how this was written more as a coming of age/into one’s own and not a coming out story. Love the narrator. Love the story, Love the characters. Loved the architecture of the magic. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

my negative review is not a rebuke on the writing or the audiobook but just a warning to other fantasy’s fiction readers
this book is not so much a single story thread following adventures of relatable likable characters
it is a trip down the rabbit hole where the reader has to piece together meanings and symbolism where some characters are living in a fractured reality
I used the phrase acid trip more than once while listening … I never felt truly invested in the story or the characters.
Mostly only ever hopeful that I would eventually care, but then just found myself annoyed by the melodrama
Analogous reading is not for me. If you like it then enjoy with my blessing.

Pro: This book was an amazing LGBT romance read.
Con: Alden’s voice actor was a bit much and I often found myself struggling to understand what he said and having to replay.
Final Thoughts: I would highly recommend.
