Historia
Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to stay out of trouble. But can he really be expected to stand by and watch while a bully picks on his scrawny best friend? Or not defend himself against his pre-algebra teacher when she turns into a monster and tries to kill him? Of course, no one believes Percy about the monster incident; he's not even sure he believes himself.

Good listen. Excellent for pre & early teens.
Revisado: 02-19-10
I'm a Mom listening to my kids books...I think if I read this book, it wouldn't have kept my attention. The narrator, however, added color to the story, and I can see why it's a hit with the Youngsters :) It's no Harry Potter, but it's a great introduction to Classical Mythology. Just don't tell the adolescents that. They'll boycott the notion.

The narrator was perfect for this book, and made the story even better. It doesn't have the passion of the Valdemar stories, but it's a good yarn, and a fun read. My only criticism is it took too long to get to the meat of the story. If this narrator reads any of the other "Elemental Masters" books, I'll be sure to buy it.

Historia
In the long title story, we accompany Sophia Kovalevsky - a late-19th-century Russian émigré and mathematician - on a winter journey that takes her from the Riviera, where she visits her lover, to Paris, Germany, and Denmark, where she has a fateful meeting with a local doctor, and finally to Sweden, where she teaches at the only university in Europe willing to employ a female mathematician.

Is this a chapter or a short story?

I enjoyed the story until the end. Is there more to this? I think the author had a fever, and wrote the end. The story may be free, but my time is too valuable.

Historia
Anne Rice lures us once again into the seductive world of vampires with her short story, The Master of Rampling Gate. In 1888, siblings Richard and Julie are drawn to the beautiful but foreboding 400-year-old family mansion. What was the "unspeakable horror" their father saw in the luxurious home they are so drawn to? Available in audio exclusively from Audible.

Anne, you're more creative than this...
Revisado: 02-19-10
I think this story was better told with the original Bram Stoker's Dracula. Without much preamble, the vampire naturally falls in love with dinner, and does what all of her vampires do when they fall in love with a human. It had none of the originality of her vampire chronicles. A colorful short story, but lacking in substance. You're better off to re-read, or re-listen to one of her older books.

Historia
This is the first volume of distinguished historian Dumas Malone's Pulitzer Prize-winning six-volume work on the life and times of Thomas Jefferson. Based on a myriad of sources, it covers Jefferson's ancestry, youth, education, and legal career; his marriage and the building of Monticello; the drafting of the Declaration of Independence and the Notes on Virginia; his rich, fruitful legislative career; his highly controversial governorship; and his early services to the development of the West.

At last, someone finally took the time to assemble significant primary documents to tell the early life story of TJ with more fact than opinion. Perhaps this book is better read than heard, so the footnotes & references are at hand. My only complaint is the narrator mispronounces several prominent names, which made me cringe over and over again. At least she got Taliaferro correct, although Fauquier & Burwell are butchered. This is still a great listen and the narrator does have a pleasant & interesting voice. I'm looking forward to the last two volumes.
