Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

MURDERBOT!!!
Revisado: 05-26-20
By its own account, Murderbot is a failure as a serial KIller. There is just too much media to consume.... Murderbot offers a hilarious look and human AI relations. There is lots of action intrigue and humor plus great character development. Many people have complained about the length of these novellas and I get that. I hardly ever pay ten dollars for a three hour book, but I made an exception with this series. Here's how it happened: My daughter got the four novellas for free in ebook form on Tor. We liked them so much that I bought book 5, Network Effect as soon as it came out on audible. Then we went back and purchased all four of the Novellas for $10.00 each on audible. We enjoyed them that much! And, you know, by the time I listened to All Systems red for the third time it was only $1.00 per hour! I just hope that another book is on the way!

Mermaids are the new Zombies!!!
Revisado: 08-06-18
Mira Grant has already brought zombies into the news. Now she has taken on mermaids. And what mermaids! These are the mermaids of your nightmares. If Michael Crichton had written about mermaids, he might have ended up in the neighborhood of this book. Mira grant offers good characters, an interesting premise and lots of action. Well worth a credit.

Exceeds expectations!
Revisado: 08-17-17
This book did exceed my expectations, but then my expectations were based on finding an audio book for $2.00. The book was $1.99 if you also owned the kindle edition which was $0.00. I thought, take a chance. High finance at audible.com.
Still. The book is entertaining and the characters are likable even if their actions are unlikely. This book is perfect for turning off the news feed, letting go of worries and weeding the garden. I'm going to get the next one.

Historia
David is in love with Tulip, a kind and unusually quiet fairy in his social circle. But everyone knows Tulip doesn't date humans. David tells himself he is happy to be Tulip's friend, because he doesn't believe a fairy could love him and Tulip has never tried to "keep him" - as fairies refer to relationships with humans. Fairies are drawn to David, describing his great "shine", but David knows only too well how quickly fairies can forget humans, and thinks he's destined to be alone. He can't see his own brilliance or understand how desperately Tulip wants him.

An emotionally satisfying book.
Revisado: 02-25-17
This is a lovely, understated story and Micheal Fell's performance only enhances it. David and Tulip have both been hurt before and their journey towards reaching out and learning to trust again is, while raw at times, very emotional. Though set in a world where magical creatures are real and intermingle with humans the central themes and plot are so universal and grounded in reality that it hardly feels like fantasy. There are no grand quests here, only people struggling to find their place in a world much like our own.
Fell emotes well without being cheesy and gives characters voices that are distinct but not distracting. I highly recommend it.

Historia
Rico has a problem. The experimental program that gave him the high intelligence and lightning reflexes he needs as a hit man for a galactic crime syndicate left him incapable of internalizing moral imperatives the rest of us take for granted. It takes real effort for him to pass as a normal human being and he avoids it whenever he can. But he has a job he loves, a fast ship, and plenty of cash. So life is good.

Fascinating
Revisado: 06-30-16
Where does SuperEgo rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It is one of my favorites. I have listened to it several times.
What was one of the most memorable moments of SuperEgo?
I liked Rico's ongoing explanations about how the rest of the world perceives reality. e.g. "People don't like it when you kill babies". (Just in case you didn't know) I also like the climactic scene where Rico yells at a God he is pretty sure he does not believe in.
What about Joel Richards’s performance did you like?
I liked his cheery tone when Rico is recounting the terrible things he has done.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Rico discovered that he had not been intended to become a hit man and that there were other things that he could have done with his life.
Any additional comments?
I would read another book by this author if it were available. In the midst of all to the craziness there was a lot to think about.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

expert story telling!
Revisado: 05-07-16
at first it seems slow, but that's because the author is laying ground work for an ambitious narrative. Wecker weaves her story with depth and precision, and the payoff is well worth a bit of patience at the beginning. By the time the action really hits, you'll be invested in both the characters and the plot!

fun but forgetable
Revisado: 01-15-16
This book wasn't BAD or anything, it's just a kind of really generic fantasy novel. It's also kind of a sausage-fest, right down to the background characters. But if you can look past that, and are in the mood for a familiar-feeling cheesy fun time, you might like this one.

Historia
In this Hugo-winner from Connie Willis, when too many jumps back to 1940 leave 21st century Oxford history student Ned Henry exhausted, a relaxing trip to Victorian England seems the perfect solution. But complexities like recalcitrant rowboats, missing cats, and love at first sight make Ned's holiday anything but restful - to say nothing of the way hideous pieces of Victorian art can jeopardize the entire course of history.

There was one big problem I had listening to this book. Even through the first reading I knew it was going to be a challenge to find another I liked as well. Time travel, romance, humor, and charming narration by Steven Crossley. Listening to this book is like taking a vacation to Victorian England. Go ahead, try it! You won't want to come home.

Historia
In his wickedly brilliant first novel, Debut Dagger Award winner Alan Bradley introduces one of the most singular and engaging heroines in recent fiction: Eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison. It is the summer of 1950 - and a series of inexplicable events has struck Buckshaw, the decaying English mansion that Flavia’s family calls home. A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath.

Revisado: 02-14-15
Watching young Flavia flying through the English countryside on her bike while plotting revenge on her sisters and clearing up a little murder is just too much fun. I was afraid that Flavia's catastrophic excess of personality might grow wearing, but she really grew on me and it was a fun mystery. Just the thing for a rainy Saturday!

Love among the very tall
Revisado: 02-09-15
The first time I listened to this book, I was a little bewildered. For a romance novel, the romance seemed a bit skimpy. It can be summarized thusly: You're tall?...I'm tall!!! We're both tall. Let's get married. With a second listen I could see that the true romance of this story was the adventure and that it is the secondary characters who bring the story to life. Daniel Hill is memorable as he puts life into each of the different characters so you feel like you know them.
