If you like Dresden files, this is your next series. Great story, great characters and it doesn't take itself to seriously.

Historia
For over 2000 years, these 13 chapters attributed to Sun Tzu have been the Bible, or should have been the Bible for those intending to wage war, or who are waging war. Ho Chi Minh I am sure was very familiar with it, and don't be surprised that the Taliban is also familiar with the principles contained therein. Leaders as diverse as Mao Zedong, General Vo Nguyen Giap, General Douglas MacArthur and leaders of Imperial Japan have drawn inspiration from the work.

(Spoiler alert) Did she go to jail or not?! I mean, we get through this whole story and it with, "I'm leaving wither to a home or to jail." Come on.

Before John Glenn orbited the Earth or Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, a group of dedicated female mathematicians known as "human computers" used pencils, slide rules, and adding machines to calculate the numbers that would launch rockets and astronauts into space. Among these problem solvers were a group of exceptionally talented African American women, some of the brightest minds of their generation.

I was not expecting this to be a super, page turner, but it started to get a little dry toward the end. I may have needed to get an abridged version...

Historia
The story opens with the apparently accidental drowning of a sixth form student in the Norfolk countryside. As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

Meh...
Revisado: 02-22-17
The investigative stuff was interesting, but by the end it was all about immigrant culture and it felt like the author was assuming that I had knowledge of that culture. I don't like mysteries/suspense where the author does not give me enough information to figure it out on my own.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Revisado: 01-25-17
I enjoy good self help books, but I do get tired of being told to be positive all the time. I'm too dry and unable to be plastic to have a cheerleader personality. This book is right up my alley. I'm going to read it again and get it in hardback...Man, so many people are going to get this book for their birthday this year....

Historia
1870. A time known as The Great Killing. The vampire clans arose and slaughtered humanity with unprecedented carnage in the northern parts of the world. Millions perished; millions were turned into herd animals. The great industrialized civilizations of the world were left in ruin. A remnant fled south to the safety of the ever present heat which was intolerable to vampires. There, blending with the local peoples, they rebuilt their societies founded on human ingenuity, steam and iron.

I'm waiting for the next Dresden book and I needed a James fix! He is a fantastic narrator. The story is okay, but he could make programming your VCR interesting. Good Urban Fantasy. I'm a little tired of vampires, but the premise is at least a little grittier than most. Definitely not Twilight.

Historia
At the end of her best-selling memoir Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert fell in love with Felipe, a Brazilian-born man of Australian citizenship who'd been living in Indonesia when they met. Resettling in America, the couple swore eternal fidelity to each other, but also swore to never, ever, under any circumstances get legally married. But providence intervened one day in the form of the United States government....

Divorce is terrible, but I saw it coming...
Revisado: 09-07-16
While this book weaned me off the high from Eat, Pray, Love......It was okay. (Spoiler alert) I feel bad because the whole time, I was thinking that Elizabeth was glossing over some pretty big differences between her and Felipe. I literally finished this book like a week before she announced her separation. Might be good for a light read...

Revisado: 09-07-16
Ugh. What a bunch of fluff. I couldn't even make it through the book. It was so trite and irritating. If you are looking for a more in depth soul-searching journey like Eat, Pray, Love, don't bother. If you want someone to over simply life and blow rainbows up your skirt. You found your book.

Historia
The ordeal of the whaleship Essex was an event as mythic in the nineteenth century as the sinking of the Titanic was in the twentieth. In 1819 the Essex left Nantucket for the South Pacific with 20 crew members aboard. In the middle of the South Pacific the ship was rammed and sunk by an angry sperm whale. The crew drifted for more than 90 days in three tiny whaleboats, succumbing to weather, hunger, and disease and ultimately turning to drastic measures in the fight for survival.

No one can endorse whaling, but since this was a different era, I decided to give this book a try. I'm glad I did. While whaling is part of the story, it is small part. The other trials and tribulations were so mind-boggling that it feels like a footnote. Great read.
