Historia
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

Sedaris brilliant as usual but more poignant
Revisado: 10-25-18
One way with words as Sedaris ages he’s getting a little bit more curmudgeonly ;his family life is getting more poignant and sadder as his siblings and parents age and he deals with his sisters suicide and the subject matter is bluer than usual although the international overview of road rage swearwords is pretty funny but graphic.

Historia
Razzle Dazzle is a provocative, no-holds-barred narrative account of the people, money, and power that reinvented an iconic quarter of New York City, turning its gritty back alleys and sex shops into the glitzy, dazzling Great White Way - and bringing a crippled New York from the brink of bankruptcy to its glittering glory.

Too long and boring in spite of a vibrant subject
Revisado: 03-04-18
Long winded and recitation of facts and figures rather than real storytelling style. The narrator operated at the same pitch- a kind of whispered urgent delivery that would be fine for certain instances but as a whole book was really difficult to listen to. There were so many theater owners ,producers ,operators that I couldn’t keep them apart and was overall extremely disappointed and I love Broadway!!

What's more, Jacob's police detective fiancée, Martha Crauchet, is assigned to the ensuing interrogation.

A Different Venue and Story
Revisado: 07-08-17
I chose for the Nova Scotia location as will be traveling there soon. And being a former librarian and art appreciator really liked the setting of libraries and the 70s vibe ( including tv and music of the time- fun !) with a historical WWll references. Lots of unusual elements for the mystery.

Historia
On paper, Chris Brennan looks perfect. He's applying for a job as a high school government teacher, he's ready to step in as an assistant baseball coach, and his references are impeccable. But everything about Chris Brennan is a lie. Susan Sematov is proud of her son Raz, a high school pitcher so athletically talented that he's being recruited for a full-ride scholarship to a Division I college, with a future in major-league baseball. But Raz’s father died only a few months ago, leaving her son in a vulnerable place where any new father figure might influence him for good, or evil.

Not a normal Scottoline but very good
Revisado: 06-26-17
Have Love Scott Illini's series of female lawyer books for years and I've heard her speak many times and she is an absolute wit. So this was a whole new experience for me. I barely recognized it as one of hers however since I like David Balducci, Michael Connelly etc. it's stood up to those guys . George Newbern The narrator was excellent also

Historia
Twenty-two and knowing no one, Tess leaves home to begin her adult life in New York City. Thus begins a year that is both enchanting and punishing in a low-level job at “the best restaurant in New York City”. Grueling hours and a steep culinary learning curve awaken her to the beauty of oysters, the finest champagnes, the appellations of Burgundy. At the same time, she opens herself to friendships - and love - set against the backdrop of dive bars and late nights.

High Hopes but didn't deliver
Revisado: 04-25-17
Excellent performance. Easy to listen to and very good with different voices. The author is very talented her language is wonderful especially her sensuous descriptions of food and wine. Learned a lot about what it takes to run a restaurant and be a server. Developed a greater appreciation However could see the ending coming and there really wasn't an admirable character in the bunch but love New York and love restaurant discoveries so enjoyed the ambience
