The main storyline could have been wrapped up very early and the main character is made to be way too stupid.

I enjoyed the first book but this main character, Jane is selfish, disloyal and allowed new persons to change her beliefs without any critical assessment.

Although the book was written to make Jane seem naive, she was really too selfish as a friend and demanded absolute loyalty to her stupid narrow thoughts and not tell the truth which can be uncomfortable.

I honestly don't even know how to start this review. The characters are stupid and have no sense of rationale and even in this day and age the intensity of the focus of a woman with mild postpartum as a criminal still had high levels of ignorance.

The daughter deserves to be put in a mental institution and the 'cliff hanger' at the end could have been seen a mile away.

I had high hopes for this story but I am really disappointed that at nearly every turn I can figure out the next twist about 2 chapters before it is revealed. The fantasy of the ending is just that and is not mirrored on how things work in reality.

I hope for any future listener that they find some sort of enjoyment but take some advice - suspend all rationale and realism so as to reduce the disappointment.

Any additional comments?

There was a significant preoccupation with color. The bias of white skin versus any other was clear in fact it may have suffered from colorism issues. In history, the point was made regarding the spaniards war with the Moors however throughout the author's story, there was a thread that emerged that wanted to make clear to the listener that the alabaster or fair skin of the heroine was noteworthy which needed to be constantly repeated.

In all of my years using audible and reading tudor history, there has never been this focus even indirectly about the skin tone except to mention either in passing or to remark on overall beauty.

I am somewhat offended by it.
