Engaging and Funny
Revisado: 03-26-21
Honestly this book did not look like it would be appealing to me but on a recommendation, I gave it a chance. I'm glad I did- it was very engaging and I actually found myself caring about the characters and what would become of them. It was light (though some dark themes) and humorous. The narrator was strong (although there are some technical hiccups in the preface- Don't give up-its well done after that) and smoothly related the tale and all the characters had distinctive voices. I would recommend.

Sound quality issues
Revisado: 07-05-20
Difficult to listen to even with headphones and I think I have fairly good ones. Lots of background noise and distortion as part of the effects. Also accents seemed a bit thick to my American ears. Made it hard to follow the story.

The economic chaos that has created so much destruction of wealth for regular Americans is far from over. This book examines problems and possible solutions within national, international, and local realms that will help us navigate these times and set a course toward calmer waters. While some clamor for more taxes to cover our government's programs, The Next America shows how we can restructure our tax code so it positively affects all aspects of our communities.

Too much of a polemic
Revisado: 07-23-15
A few interesting (and somewhat over-specific) ideas on how to spur certain types of economic development advances but over-all far too conclusory. Just throws some of his basic assumptions out there as unassailable truths and expects the reader to agree. Slightly refreshing that he is not 100% righty or lefty (though you could find examples of both) but he still states his considered approaches as the only way.
He might be more interesting to hear on a panel featuring a wide range of views to understand how different tendencies approach different problems

Throughout these books, Follett has followed the fortunes of five intertwined families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they make their way through the twentieth century. Now they come to one of the most tumultuous eras of all: the enormous social, political, and economic turmoil of the 1960s through the 1980s, from civil rights, assassinations, mass political movements and Vietnam to the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis, presidential impeachment, revolution - and rock and roll.

If the past is prologue, then George R. R. Martin's masterwork - the most inventive and entertaining fantasy saga of our time - warrants one hell of an introduction. At long last, it has arrived with The World of Ice & Fire. This volume is a comprehensive history of the Seven Kingdoms, providing vividly constructed accounts of the epic battles, bitter rivalries, and daring rebellions that lead to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO's Game of Thrones.

Great but a pdf map would help
Revisado: 02-06-15
This "historical" summary of Martin's world is exactly what you would expect. As written by an opinionated Maester adds some spice. That being said, it can sometimes be difficult to follow in the audio format. Some basic background in a pdf like other audiobooks offer would be a great aid

Historia
Famine. Death. War. Pestilence. These are the harbingers of the biblical apocalypse, of the End of the World. In science fiction, the end is triggered by less figurative means: nuclear holocaust, biological warfare/pandemic, ecological disaster, or cosmological cataclysm. But before any catastrophe, there are people who see it coming. During, there are heroes who fight against it. And after, there are the survivors who persevere and try to rebuild. THE APOCALYPSE TRIPTYCH will tell their stories. Edited by acclaimed anthologist John Joseph Adams and bestselling author Hugh Howey, THE APOCALYPSE TRIPTYCH is a series of three anthologies of apocalyptic fiction. THE END IS NIGH focuses on life before the apocalypse. THE END IS NOW turns its attention to life during the apocalypse. And THE END HAS COME focuses on life after the apocalypse.

Not Deep But Funny Enough
Revisado: 04-09-14
This is a People Magazine E! channel-type book. Not really for thinkers but kinda fun anyway. The language is often too over the top, but what do expect? I do like the few occasions when the author attempts to delve a little deeper to show, in his opinion, why something was an incredibly bad idea and had no hope for success (the Newton- which I always just thought of as an early-for-its-time pioneer). I

Historia
Faust is one of the pillars of Western literature. This classic drama presents the story of the scholar Faust, tempted into a contract with the Devil in return for a life of sensuality and power. Enjoyment rules, until Faust’s emotions are stirred by a meeting with Gretchen, and the tragic outcome brings Part 1 to an end. Part 2, written much later in Goethe’s life, places his eponymous hero in a variety of unexpected circumstances, causing him to reflect on humanity and its attitudes to life and death.

Good and Serviceable
Revisado: 09-11-13
Any additional comments?
This one is more of a page turner and clear storytelling and apart from the opening scenes in Cornwall about halfway through the book and less like some of the more indirect and streamy style for which his earlier classic novels are celebrated.

More history than story
Revisado: 11-16-11
This book is not terribly chock a block with action (though there some battle scenes) but the overall sense of it I got was that the author was really trying to describe more details and smaller parts of the world he has created. The overall story is advanced is advanced...somewhat. I found the description of the ins and outs of the new society to be interesting and will definitely read more but this book may not be the best thing for those who care more about "what happens next" and plotty aspects.
Personally, these books now to me are more about exploring the new created environment than the whole tried and true good v. evil storyline. Although I would like to know more about the world of those folks in Nantucket stuck in 1200 BC and how it will all tie together.
