Historia
Long before she was a rare book dealer, Rebecca Romney was a devoted reader of Jane Austen. She loved that Austen’s books took the lives of women seriously, explored relationships with wit and confidence, and always, allowed for the possibility of a happy ending. She read and reread them, often wishing Austen wrote just one more. But Austen wasn’t a lone genius. She wrote at a time of great experimentation for women writers—and clues about those women, and the exceptional books they wrote, are sprinkled like breadcrumbs throughout Austen’s work.

Is you enjoy a Lucy Worsley book or deep dive documentary, you’ll love Jane Austen’s Bookshelf by Rebecca Romney.
Revisado: 02-20-25
Such a great read for any bibliophile! I don’t believe you have to be a Janeite to enjoy this book. It reminded me of reading 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff. I am so excited to look up the remaining books mentioned that I haven’t read.
If you enjoy the SHEDUNNIT podcast you’ll probably find all the information about these almost forgotten writers interesting and informative.
I like the way Rebecca tells us about her experiences looking for readable copies of these old books by authors many people don’t remember. She shares her knowledge on how to obtain copies. It feels like you’re reading letters from a friend telling you about their reading journey.
Like reading A Jane Austen Education by William Deresiewicz. I found both books engrossing to read how these books they were so reluctant to read affected their actual perspectives.
This will be a useful book to reread and listen to on audiobook for Jane Austen July preparation’s. I had to re read it as soon as I was done like The Jane Austen Society by Natalie Jenner. I love a book about books and about readers.
I was counting the days till Jane Austen’s Bookshelf by Rebecca Romney came out. I pre ordered it on audible and in hardback. It was worth the wait and very worth my time.
Happy reading and listening everyone!
Rebecca thank you for all your research and behind the scenes information about the world of book publishing and book collecting. I love seeing these women’s work being introduced to the reading public of today. I truly appreciate you sharing your wonderful creation with us.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

This is an easy read, quite the page turner. I was completely engrossed in the story from page 1, as I have been with this entire series. If you like a mystery, Agatha Christie style? You’ve found a modern day Christie for Christmas. I’ll be buying several sets for gifts. Happy Reading/listening.

Great story and performance!
Revisado: 04-04-19
Jacqueline Winspear and Orlagh Cassidy have done it again. I have introduced the Maisie Dobbs series to several friends and relatives who all enjoy it as much as I do. We look forward to the spring release of the latest novel with great excitement. As always this book is well worth the wait. Jacqueline Winspear’s email’s leading up to the lasted release with back round on the history of the time and place that the new history novel will take place are wonderful. This is truly one of my all time favorite series. The history is presented well and completely accurate. The story is so well done, every storyline woven together to a well drown conclusion. With enough intrigue to keep you turning each page and leaving you in great anticipation for the next novel. I especially love the storyline with Maisie and Priscilla in this novel. As well as the relationship between Maisie and the entire Partridge family. We have all fallen in love with little Anna. Jacqueline Winspear is a master storyteller. Orlagh Cassidy’s performance is perfection itself. Thank you both for sharing your gifted talents with us! We are looking forward to your next book. Get some well deserved rest.

Maisie does it again. Thank you Jacqueline Winspear for another wonderful Maisie Dobbs book! I can't help but be rather impatiently looking forward to the next in this wonderful series. This book deals with refugees and the shuffling of children that occurred during WWII. I have read all the Maisie Dobbs books as well as The Care And Management Of Lies. Jacqueline Winspear is one of my top 5 living authors. If you have yet to read any of her historical fiction novels? Your in for quite a treat. Enjoy! Thank you Orlagh Cassidy. I love your voice! You create a wonderful listen experience.
