Often a book sells due to an authors’ popularity than content. This is one such book of seemingly meaningless stories but in classic Murakami style the language is lucid and the plots easy on your ears

An overly stretched short story
Revisado: 09-17-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Chapters 20 till end (25) is the entire mystery and the whole read.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Predictable and undramatic.
What three words best describe John McCormack’s voice?
Dull and monotonous. Needs lessons in pronunciation. Calling Urdu (oordu) Erdu????? Really? So high handedness and disregard
Did In the Woods inspire you to do anything?
Change the book
Any additional comments?
I'm thoroughly disappointed and completely misguided with Audible's recommendation of this book.

What disappointed you about Gone Girl?
After a promising start the book lost it's grip in parts. The central plot was good but wish more attention was paid to the planning which makes the plot thicker
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Amy's character
What three words best describe Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ’s voice?
Articulate, persuasive, cogent
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment - not about the plot but about the lack of authenticity in a relationship

Historia
Prosecuting attorney in the Manson trial Vincent Bugliosi held a unique insider's position in one of the most baffling and horrifying cases of the 20th century: the cold-blooded Tate-LaBianca murders carried out by Charles Manson and four of his followers. What motivated Manson in his seemingly mindless selection of victims, and what was his hold over the young women who obeyed his orders? Now available for the first time in unabridged audio, the gripping story of this famous and haunting crime is brought to life by acclaimed narrator Scott Brick.

It needed to be crisper
Revisado: 11-16-12
What did you like best about Helter Skelter? What did you like least?
It is an original account of the murders presented lucidly. However the very long narrative ambles along and fails to grip the listener in many parts. Sometimes you wish it would end soon, because the end is predictable.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Belied my expectations.
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The Narrator is superb. I look forward to more of his works
Was Helter Skelter worth the listening time?
Let me just say, it would have been unforgettable if edited better. It lost the crispness through the long winded narrative.
Any additional comments?
All true accounts need a bit of dramatisation for the newer generations. They should be made more contemporary and ageless.

Historia
A full-cast dramatisation of Robert Graves' brilliant account of the madness and debauchery of ancient Rome, starring Tom Goodman Hill as Claudius and Derek Jacobi as Augustus. The wickedly entertaining inside story of the lives and deaths of the Imperial dynasty from Augustus to Caligula is told by their obscure relation, Claudius. In public, Claudius is a stammering, drooling weakling, whose reputation as an idiot keeps him safe from office and assassination.

Historia
A spectacular best seller and now a classic, The Name of the Rose catapulted Umberto Eco, an Italian professor of semiotics turned novelist, to international prominence. An erudite murder mystery set in a fourteenth-century monastery, it is not only a gripping story but also a brilliant exploration of medieval philosophy, history, theology, and logic.

No match to the original text
Revisado: 09-03-12
What did you like best about The Name of the Rose? What did you like least?
The audiobook is no match to the original text. "The Name of the Rose" leans heavily on the characterisations of the various players and borrows heavily from the catholic history. The ominous and engaging temperant is missing in the audio book. The book seems like an abridged version of the original, reproduced in a haste.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Time well spent since it's engaging. The performances are super
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Part 1 with Jonathan Harker's account was abruptly cut off and followed by Van Helsing's account. I wish the Harker's section had a more compelling end.
