This is my second read of this story. But after seeing some of the so so reviews I decided to leave my two cents on it.

I liked this. First I’m enjoying that her characters are flawed people with lessons to learn. There isn’t a huge amount of angst. Which I have to be honest just gets boring after awhile. The whole I want him but I’m going to deny my feelings because of my past trauma blah blah blah gets really old. I get we are all a product of our current lives but also to some degree our pasts. Some of us learn lessons and move forward and some refuse to let go and are held back. Im not judging here. Im just saying as a reader I appreciate a character who can face their past and mistakes and decide to move forward learning from it.

Having said that I know some think Wynn forgave to easily. That she just allowed him back in her life and bed to easily after all he had done. Well I don’t agree. Wynn was by her own admission very much in love with him. She never stopped loving him. And in some part of her heart I think she always felt like maybe there was still a chance. It wasn’t until her argument with Bea she realized she was holding on and that she might be doing so in vain. That realization broke her heart again. Remy hadn’t yet faced his demons with his abuse as a child. He didn’t even see that some of his reactions to Wynn were related to that conditioning and abuse. It was realizing that he had given up his right to be Wynns confidant and protector that it clicked in his brain that he had made a huge mistake. He was in denial when he broke them up. About a lot of things. He admits freely he found ways to be in her company to fight with her about non important issues just because in the past that passion is what connected them and made them stronger.

Was the whole thing a little dysfunctional and twisted in the way the break up occurred? Absolutely. But after visiting his parents it was easy to see why he shut down. I will say that even though he and Wynn had to go through this rocky road to figure these things out. Remy became a better adult than either of his parents. And became a better parent than either of them. So while he didn’t come out on the other side totally without scars he did break the cycle he had grown up in.

So I guess while a lot of people might say the reconciliation happened too quickly. I think they were just being very real with themselves when they finally examined things and talked through it. Why punish themselves and each other further when they both understood the situation and reasons for it?

All in all I’m loving these. I like they kind of tie into the River Rain series a bit. Which is also amazing. I hope there will be another book and this will be a series.
Love Kristen Ashley

I love this series. I just finished re reading the entire series so I could catch myself up on what had come prior to True Dead. I’m so glad that I did. Not only was it far more enjoyable to read each book back to back but I caught little details this time around that I’d missed the first time. This book is by far the best one yet and sets the stage for what I’m assuming might be a grand finally. I can’t imagine a world we’re there’s no more Jane stories. So I’m hoping Faith Hunter might come up with a few new villains and adventures for Jane. I love the way she has surrounded herself with a variety of beings as part of her inner circle/family/court. She has become the glue that binds all of them together with love, loyalty, respect, blood and magic. And no one is left unchanged including the Dark Queen herself Jane Yellowrock.

I try to find the positives in a book...here’s what I felt was a plus here. The story line was interesting...It wasn’t the typical Vampire story. This broke all the stereotypes of sunlight, stakes etc. In this world the economy has crashed and Vampires who are known to be real by everyone are now out in the open mainstream and one of the biggest employers in the city. If you are willing to become a blood escort. This is a job in which you agree to feed your sponsor vampire your blood, a type that is specially matched to that vampire and in return you are well compensated. Problem? Well vampires are very political as well as predatory so their world can become pretty scary to say the least. But when faced no jobs, no education, no income and with starvation you reconsider what you will and won’t do to make a living.

Now here’s my cons...this was and is an interesting idea for a story. I even liked the characters to a point. There are a few truly scary evil bad guys, a gorgeous broody hero and one incredibly annoying heroine. Yeah she’s what screwed up the entire story for me. I thought at first this girls just plucky...she’s curious and let’s be honest questioning certain situations seems reasonable. But that’s just the thing....she doesn’t ask enough important relevant questions when she signs on the dotted line to join this service and then once she’s in a world she doesn’t understand the rules to she won’t shut up. She continues to ask stupid questions when she’s been advised to remain silent. She knows that some of these “people” are dangerous and deadly and yet she continues to open her mouth asking questions and inserting herself into situations that put her in danger. I read this book all the way through...but by the end I wanted to tell the girl please just shut up and follow instructions.

The narrator did great job with the voices and the overall story idea was a good one. But the female character had no sense of self preservation or the reality of her situation. Which made the story frustrating to listen to. Will I read the next one? Honestly not sure at this point.

I loved the Chicagoland series and in all honesty I didn’t think it could get much better than Merit and Ethan. But I think I was wrong the next generation looks like it could be even more exciting and interesting. I can’t wait to see that happens next with Connor and Alisa...this is going to be good.

I have no words to describe Penelope the main character in this story. She begins the story running from a dog and his owner after stealing the dogs poop. She lives in this world in which life is a romance novel and she looks for and expects all of the people in her life to behave like their book counterparts.

Then there’s Jake. Hes Penelope’s That Guy. The billionaire hero. I think at first Jake thinks Penelope just needs medication, because who in their right mind invites themselves into a strangers home when they aren’t home goes through his stuff, takes a bath in his bathroom, wears his clothing and drinks his alcohol....?

At first I admit I was thinking this girl is so over the top crazy how can she get past that to become a love interest of the male character? No one in their right mind would sign up for that it’s insane.

But Penelope isn’t just crazy. She’s out going and funny and smart and extremely opportunistic which is why the story actually works. And after a while the crazy still seems crazy but you just go with it.

This book is funny, it catches you off guard and before you realize it your invested in the crazy. Worth the read.

I love this story. I’m not going to give it completely away...except to say that the first half of the book consists of correspondence between the two main characters. Arron a soldier in Iraq and Ruby a girl from Texas who has become a participant in a letter writing program for soldiers who’ve been deployed.

Ok I know what you are thinking. Doesn’t sound all that exciting right? But have you ever considered how much emphasis we put on the first visual contact with someone? Quite often if they don’t click with that part of our brain that sparks visual attraction we might not go any further to make contact.

These two people meet backwards. They talk. They share their thoughts, worries, secrets, jokes...they find out over 9 months that they could and have become best friends. Even though they have never met or even seen a photo of each other. There are reasons they haven’t. But you’ll have to find out why like I did.

Now I won’t say they fall in love sight unseen...not even fictional characters are that ridiculous. But they do form a very close mutual bond.

You’ll enjoy the banter and the two narrators did a great job. Ruby is a jewel who has no clue of her true value and Aaron is the kind of guy you can’t help but fall in love with.

I’m a fan of Aurora Rose Reynolds writing and this one didn’t disappoint me. I love the main characters Fawn and Levi. And there families were too funny. This one had me grinning often and laughing out loud a few times too. I’m hoping there will be more stories to go with this one. Maybe about Levi’s brother or partner? Or maybe Fawns sisters? Fingers crossed Ms Reynolds thinks so too.

First I'm a Kristen Ashley fan. I put off reading the rock chick series, (my first KA series) but once I did I was hooked and a fan. But I admit that while I did have this book in my wish list of future reads I had avoided getting it. For some unknown reason it just wasn't calling to me. However once again I feel foolish for waiting and was pleasantly surprised. Why did I wait?

I loved this story. I enjoyed Abby and Cash. I admit the first interaction when they met in the Pub had me thinking ugh...arrogant bastard and ice queen. But that was just the masks they wore into battle. Well in fairness Cash is arrogant....but he has so much depth and honor and true kindness in him that his arrogance can be forgiven and even embraced. Abby is anything but an ice queen. She's kind and sweet and also has a huge heart. And she's smart. She's not a sit and ring her hands kind of girl. She is trying and sometimes failing but still trying to be her own woman and figure out her own problems. It would have been easier for her to let others care for her and fix things...but Abby isn't a woman to take without giving back more in return.

Just as in a great many KA stories she surrounds her main characters with a wide range of vibrant and often eccentric personalities via their friends and families. And she does not disappoint in this book on that front.

I smiled a lot at the verbal banter, I laughed and I even teared a time or two. Great story. Worth the credit, can't wait for the next one. Thank you KA

In all honesty when I first started listening to this book I wasn't sure I could get into it. It seemed a little over the top with the language and even some of the phrases. But I have to admit that once I let that go and stopped being annoyed at the totally cocky thinking and just let myself relax into the story and characters, this book actually became pretty funny. The conversations and verbal banter between the family and friends in this story became one of my favorite parts. And once you accepted the words and phrases as normal speech for these characters it became hilarious to listen to the twisted logic.

This book has some pretty explicit language so if you are easily offended you might want to pass this one by.

But if you aren't easily annoyed by off the wall nicknames, made up words and phrases or two straight best guy friends who seem to have a genuine working bromance with each other then this book will have you laughing.

It wasn't what I expected at all. But I'd recommend it if you want to have some fun.

I'm going to say up front that this is a good story. And worth the time and credit. If I had any negatives to say about it, it would be that it seemed to be a little slow in the beginning.

Having said that in all fairness this is also a story about two very strong people who had broken pasts but who didn't allow those pasts to dictate their futures. That all by itself is a character trait I admire and respect. So maybe because of who they were and are now they needed to take things slowly to be able to be together.

It's also a story that reminds you not to judge a book by its cover. While the lead male character doesn't seem very likeable during a great deal of the book you find out that he is like an onion and once you start peeling away the layers you discover there's much more to him and why he is the way he is.

I love the heroine Vanessa, she's spunky, funny, smart and determined and no ones push over. She stands up for herself and stands on her own two feet. I also enjoyed the secondary character roommate Zack. I thought the friendship he had with Vanessa was the kind of best friend/family we all would love to have.

The author is fast becoming one of my favorites and the narrator for this book Callie Dalton does an excellent job with all the voices. Perfect for each person in the story.

It might seem a little slower moving that what's considered typical in novels these days but keep reading because by the end you'll be laughing and smiling at these characters and this story.
