Historia
In The Allure of the Multiverse, physicist Paul Halpern tells the epic story of how science became besotted with the multiverse, and the controversies that ensued. The questions that brought scientists to this point are big and deep: Is reality such that anything can happen, must happen? How does quantum mechanics "choose" the outcomes of its apparently random processes? And why is the universe habitable? Each question quickly leads to the multiverse.

Historia
In My Stroke of Insight, Taylor shares her unique perspective on the brain and its capacity for recovery, and the sense of omniscient understanding she gained from this unusual and inspiring voyage out of the abyss of a wounded brain. It would take eight years for Taylor to heal completely. Because of her knowledge of how the brain works, her respect for the cells composing her human form, and most of all an amazing mother, Taylor completely repaired her mind and recalibrated her understanding of the world.

Start with TED's first viral talk
Revisado: 06-15-24
This is an incredible story beautifully and compellingly told. However - the TED talk is the first thing you should experience. It was the very first to go viral way back when TED was an infant. If you don't get goosebumps or tear-up - well, I bet you do!
Jill says that she learned more about her brain from experiencing her stroke than she had in many years as a neuroscientist.
While this is not written as a self help book - I found a number of methods Jill used in rebuilding her brain to be very helpful to me. As an overthinker/ruminator, I found her technique of stopping in the moment to see, hear, taste, smell to be very useful in retraining neural pathways.
She is truly a wonderful and very brave woman.

Historia
The Light Eaters is a deep immersion into the drama of green life and the complexity of this wild and awe-inspiring world that challenges our very understanding of agency, consciousness, and intelligence. In looking closely, we see that plants, rather than imitate human intelligence, have perhaps formed a parallel system.

Dazzling acheivement!
Revisado: 06-15-24
What a wonderfully researched, shaped and told story this is. I was listening to Ed Yong's "I contain Multitudes" when I heard Zoe Schlanger interviewed on Fresh Air and just had to let her jump the queue.
There is much that overlaps between the two books and amazement in each. I found The Light Eaters to be even more filled with delight and astonishment and the author's commitment to her story was fabulous.
It is very heartening that there are people like Schlanger, Yong, Sheldrake, Lent and others who can gather knowledge from disparate fields and synthesize it for us. We need to know how unbelievably complex and interconnected our world is before it's too late. I hope these are the grains of rice that will eventuate the avalanche and change how we interact with each other and the world (metaphor taken from Jeremy Lent)

Almost walked away - glad I didn't
Revisado: 06-15-24
The author does bang on (and on) about the negatives in our world, even after agreement has been reached. It got so depressing that twice I nearly deleted the book. I'm glad I didn't. I think he has some very important things to say and in the end there is hope. Learning about Neg-entropy made it worth much of the downside. The Narrator unfortunately wasn't told how to pronounce Jill Bolte Taylor (NOT Bolt!!!) and that was annoying as she, rightly, popped up now and then.

Historia
In his mid-20s, Jimmy was bored, boring, unfulfilled and underachieving. He wasn't exactly depressed, but he was very sad. Think of a baby owl whose mum has recently died in a windmill accident. He was that sad. This audiobook tells the story of how Jimmy turned it around and got happy, through the redemptive power of dick jokes.
