I ADORED this charming and tremendously bookish murder mystery filled with old people and gay people —and a badass, beloved, bisexual Ukrainian care worker / math genius / crypto queen 💛

Nina Wadia does an excellent job narrating all the various accents and emotions —I could genuinely SEE the various characters just through her voice. The story is gripping and entertaining and wonderful from the very start to the very end! All the stars for this book!!

I can’t believe that a story so short managed to encapsulate so much joy and family and feeling into it that I am BAWLING right now —tears of joy and love and found family sweetness! This is such a charming, wholesome story, filled with heart and humour and silliness and genuine kindness.

The performances are stellar! Everyone on this cast has the best laugh! And particularly adored the person who plays Eric! Really could not recommend this story enough! If you’re looking for something cheerful, romantic, HOPEFUL and a mood booster —this is the audiobook for you. I hope we get many many more stories from this author and this cast! 💛💛💛💛💛💛

A great, informative, enjoyable listen!

I love that it covered everything from the journey of up-and-coming gamers and their persistence before the industry was big, and that it was really focused on the gamers’ perspective. The book addresses gender equality, women in gaming, racism, discrimination, match fixing, the business side of companies like Twitch developing (one of my favourite chapters, which reminded me of Blood, Sweat, and Pixels by Jason Schreier —an incredible book relevant to this one), the consequences of online audience backlash, and workers rights in the gaming industry. Lots of fun quotes and varied insights!

I don’t play, but watch a ton of documentaries and audiobooks about the esports industry and this one has a lot to offer to the canon 👍🏾 10/10 recommend, and loved that it came free with audible plus!

A wildly compelling, thoroughly endearing, thrilling 3.5 hour listen. It was my favourite audiobook of 2020 and I’m diving in again bc the Elizabeth Holmes trial starts this week. I’m so glad that this story —rooted in the family and young man whose life was severely affected by the lengths Theranos was willing to go for fraudulent behaviour— is the basis for my knowledge of this enormous cruel scam. It’s still as captivating, shocking and filled with humanity the second time.

The way Tyler Shultz makes this story of corporate evil so personal, emotional, relatable and heart-strings-pulling while also so enjoyable, intriguing and infuriating, revealing himself and his amazing, supportive parents as endlessly sweet, fair and compassionate is— absolutely chef’s kiss.

I laughed and was brought to tears several times; felt the righteous anger of injustice and the vindication so deserved. ‘Thicker than Water’ is a fascinating, inspiring story of fairness and family, allegiance and integrity. (Also how stubborn & toxic old rich white men can be.)

Quintessential ✨sex-positive✨ reading for queer, trans, and questioning people. Lowkey a guide for white and cis allies; A smalltown learning to be more accepting, one person at a time. Also, Kacen Callender writing performed by a Black queer trans narrator felt so overwhelmingly GOOD and sincere and transcendent. The depth that Commarrah J Yochanan gave to this story is immeasurable.

content warnings for homophobia, publicly outed in the past, and flashbacks to bullying. protagonist’s mom has lupus flare-ups.

This was a lovely, sweet and charming hour-long story. It’s a cute conversation between a couple that’s known each other their whole lives and been in love with the other person (seemingly unrequited) the entire time.

Super unnecessary that after a nice ending moment, they’re like “Oh should we tell them?” BAM. Cancer. Allegedly cured but like... SO unnecessary and it’s really no need for the story to even go there and then just END. Wild.

If you’re looking for something quick to listen to - I needed something to listen to while I lay down and wait for pain meds to kick in. This was fun. A little dampened by the cancer ending but overall an enjoyable journey.

(The woman is a bit mean about the other girls he dated which is weird. She calls them names like Ditzy and hoe, which... Unnecessary. But, yah!)

This book is incredible, and lovely, and brilliant and wonderful! Everything the reviews are saying is true. It seems very lah-di-dah to say of a self-help book that it really speaks to you as if you’re a friend, that it inspires you to make real-life, in-the-moment improvements for your life, that it made you see yourself, and your relationships, !!and your state of being alive!! completely differently and suddenly hopeful. But this book really does! I’m incredibly glad that I got it on audio; Tara speaking to me brought her words to life in a way I wouldn’t have experienced and internalised had I just read the book. But once I started, I also bought the ebook so that I could highlight and screenshot passages for myself to write in my journal. (You will need a journal while listening to this book.) And I’m about to call my local indie bookstore to order a paperback copy for myself so I can underline in coloured pencil and keep it on my desk to page through and loan it each of my best friends in turn!! I’ve read a bunch of inspiring memoirs and charming self-help books but man, I haven’t felt this inspired and grateful and totally fucking ready to make changes at every chapter as I have with this book!! My life has become exponentially lighter and brighter, like something I can grab onto and shape with love and intention. I cannot stress enough how accessible and attainable and immediate the changes Tara suggests are. I felt seen and known and understood in a thousand ways by listening to her life stories. Every day I’ve learned something that shifted my outlook, that made me feel loved and cared for, by myself and by Tara. Buy yourself this fucking glorious book!!! And the lilies! Buy yourself the fucking lilies, too!
