Historia
Award-winning novelist Taylor Brown brings to life one of the most compelling events in twentieth-century American history, reminding us of the hard-won origins of today’s unions. Rednecks is a propulsive, character-driven tale that’s both a century old and blisteringly contemporary: a story of unexpected friendship, heroism in the face of injustice, and the power of love and community against all odds.

The Battle of Blair Mountain - as it should be told
Revisado: 05-22-24
The story was well researched and beautifully written. Historical events faithfully told, but with new life!
Only complaint - the occasional mispronunciation of some places in WV by the narrator. Having lived in and around this area for the better part of the last 35 years, I understand that some don’t know how the natives pronounce some of the locations. Appreciated the narrator and how his words added life to this story, regardless.

Historia
Germany, 1945. In the waning days of World War II, the Nazis have been all but defeated. Uwe Fuchs, never a fighter, feels fortunate to have avoided the front lines as he cared for his widowed mother. But Uwe’s fortune changes when Hans Sauer, the village bully, recruits him to join a guerilla resistance unit preparing for the arrival of Allied soldiers. At first, Uwe is wary. The war is lost, and rumor has it that Hans is a deserter. But Hans entices him with talk of power, brutality, and their village’s ancestral lore: werewolves.

A cautionary tale for our times
Revisado: 09-28-22
A great story and a great listen. A reminder that if we fail to learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. It serves as a reflection on our times, failure to head the voices of compassion and care, anyone can be a monster.

Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

Like a Doctor Who story!
Revisado: 06-29-13
What did you love best about The Ocean at the End of the Lane?
This was like a Doctor Who story - if the Doctor was a 12 year old girl and the companion was a 7 year old boy, and the TARDIS is a duck pond! Other than that, exactly he same! As only can be told by Neil Gaiman!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Lettie, the 12 year old, who shows what it is to sacrifice for a loved one.
Any additional comments?
I only regret that it was as short as it was. I wanted to stay in that world longer. I also regret that I will, yet again, have another lengthy wait for Neil's next novel!
