Historia
As a wielder of domestic magic, Finlay Ashowan likes to keep his affairs as neat and orderly as his kitchen. But between his work for the King and Queen of Daxaria and a new (secret) relationship with Lady Annika Jenoure, his life is anything but tidy. For one thing, if Annika and Fin are to continue their romance, they’ll need to sort out the pesky issue of Fin’s being a commoner—before Annika is forced into a political marriage that interferes with her own carefully laid plans. For another, pressure is mounting as the war with Troivack draws ever closer.

Feels unfinished
Revisado: 02-16-23
Entertaining but ends suddenly. It feels like the first half of a novel not a complete one in itself.

Historia
Bob Howard has been assigned to work with the Miyamoto Group, checking the wards that lock down Japan's warded sites - a task previously handled by his predecessor Dr. Angleton, the Eater of Souls. This mostly involves policing yokai: traditional magical beings, increasingly grown more annoying and energetic. But then Bob's simple trip turns into a deadly confrontation with the ultimate yokai. It's massively powerful. It's pink. And it says Hello.

Confusing if you haven’t read the series before
Revisado: 08-04-22
I usually like Charles Stross, but have not read this series before and so I found the story puzzling. Too many world-specific terms about the magic system I didn’t understand. Better to start with one of the novels, where there is time for explanations, rather than a short story.

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-22-20
I just could not get into it. I did not find the characters interesting enough to finish the book.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Poor narration
Revisado: 04-09-19
The story was fast paced, which I normally like but I didn’t get very far. The narrator doesn’t to anything to differentiate between different characters, and there are multiple narrators. He doesn’t pause much between changes in point of view, either. He made it very difficult to follow what was happening to whom. I might have stuck with the book longer if I’d had an easier time following the story.
