Historia
Amos Abernathy lives for history. Literally. He’s been a historical reenactor nearly all his life. But when a cute new volunteer arrives at his Living History Park, Amos finds himself wondering if there’s something missing from history: someone like the two of them. Amos is sure there must have been LGBTQ+ people in nineteenth-century Illinois. His search turns up Albert D. J. Cashier, a Civil War soldier who might have identified as a trans man if he’d lived today.

A Must Read!
Revisado: 07-06-22
A charming story about a 13-year-old gay boy who volunteers at a historical reenactment park, while trying to understand why no one from the gay community seems to exist in history.
I absolutely loved this book! It tackles some tricky issues in such a delightful, caring, and kid-friendly way, aided by a sensible understanding of what the new research into that time period can and cannot tell us about the the LGBTQ+ community during the the Civil War era.

Important Skills Spoiled By Author Opinions
Revisado: 02-27-20
The important skills are presented in a clear, easy to understand format. Unfortunately the author inserts his political opinions throughout the book, which makes the book far harder to listen to. I wish the author had taken his own advice and stuck the the solid rules he lays out for the reader instead.

Historia
Noah Keller has a pretty normal life, until one wild afternoon when his parents pick him up from school and head straight for the airport, telling him on the ride that his name isn't really Noah and he didn't really just turn eleven in March. And he can't even ask them why - not because of his Astonishing Stutter, but because asking questions is against the newly instated rules. (Rule Number Two: Don't talk about serious things indoors, because Rule Number One: They will always be listening).

Good Road Trip Book For The Whole Family
Revisado: 03-21-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Cloud and Wallfish to be better than the print version?
It's a good audio version with the added benefit of having the German bits read to you.
Any additional comments?
I loved this book! I actually visited Berlin (both West and East) a few months before the wall fell and thought the story really captured the unique Cold War situation and the energy in those last months. Nesbet does an excellent job highlighting the strangeness of the Cold War with a story involving two 10-year-olds that is both believable and yet tense. This is one of those stories that would make a good family road trip book because the story will interest all ages.
