Simpering characters and insulting characterizations of enslaved people. The story represented a very simplistic view of the Civil War.

Insipid grade school story!
Revisado: 06-17-19
This book was simplistic and clueless. The main characters were sweet but ingenuous. The author proposes the reader suspend disbelief arduously.
Do not hold your breath for the length of time it takes the author to disclose the plot. It is just plain silly!

Historia
Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

A Painful and yet, bland, read.
Revisado: 11-05-18
For fans of John Grisham this book must be his most indifferent. offering to date. The characters were not engaging and the central theme of the book, the consequences of Infidelity, was a weak justification for murder.
Graphic scenes of brutality provided a sadistic window into the suffering pointlessly endured by prisoners in the Japanese theater of WWII. It was not worth slogging through.

A Shallow Journey
Revisado: 12-02-17
Having the opportunity to travel broadly with my husband, I had high hopes of enjoying this principal character’s experience abroad. The story was ridiculous and the characters were so poorly drawn that the reader is indifferent to their fates.
The fatuous, moralizing conclusion betrayed the author’s complete lack of insight regarding guilt and human nature.

Historia
In 1918, after four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia to take a job as the lighthouse keeper on remote Janus Rock. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes only four times a year and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Three years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel is tending the grave of her newly lost infant when she hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up on shore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Poor performance hindered a mediocre story
Revisado: 01-10-16
Would you try another book from M. L. Stedman and/or Noah Taylor?
No I would not. Especially if Fred by the same performer. The story was weak.
What was most disappointing about M. L. Stedman’s story?
The plotline was very unrealistic and foolish. The conclusion of the story was out of character with the personalities as they were developed.
Would you be willing to try another one of Noah Taylor’s performances?
Never.. He speaks with a cadence it is repetitive and difficult to hear. He begins his sentences I'm a high note and gradually his voice becomes lower in softer over and over again
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Maybe if there was nothing else worth seeing and I was desperate
