Historia
For some it’s an opportunity. For others it’s a moment to question their faith: In God, in science, in everything. Still others try to keep the world running in the face of absurdity and uncertainty. And then there are the billions looking to the sky and wondering how a thing that was always just there is now... something absolutely impossible.

Revisado: 04-06-25
I love most of Scalzi's books but this one is incoherent and a BIG disappointment.
Chapter 1: surprise, the moon turned to cheese.
Chapters 2-30: boring short stories only tangentially related (the cheese moon is mentioned)
Chapter 31: surprise, just kidding, the moon isn't cheese after all

The narrator (portrayed as ex-US president Nixon) is hilarious as is the rest of cast. Loved it.

Historia
Charles Tremayne is a spy out of his time. After a long career spent rescuing prisoners from the KGB or helping defectors across the Berlin Wall, the world has changed. The Wall has gone, and no longer is there a need for a Russian-speaking ice-cold killer. Nowadays, state secrets are transmitted via satellite using impenetrable blowfish algorithms. Counting down the days to his retirement by babysitting drunken visiting politicos, he is seconded by MI6 for one last case.

Hate the performance, love the story
Revisado: 07-04-16
What disappointed you about Battlefield Earth?
The background sounds (characters grunting, hoof beats, and other extraneous noises) are very distracting. The music is the worst; it is more like noise.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I am interested in listening to a narration without any distracting music or dramatization. In this audio, narrating a simple short sentence is often accompanied by several seconds of extraneous music and other meaningless drama. It is usually difficult to hear the narrator over the background noise.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was disappointed. The book deserves better.
Any additional comments?
This book is considered by many (including myself) to be Hubbard’s best science fiction work. Too bad that this audio version doesn’t do it justice.

Boring
Revisado: 03-06-15
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
For aspiring comedians only, else boring.
What could Amy Poehler have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Tell a few jokes maybe? The reading of a chapter in front of a live audience seemed staged because the audience guffawed even though she wasn't even a little bit funny. Maybe they were here friends and wanted to cheer here on. Those inappropriate laughs were annoying to me.
Any additional comments?
This books is a rambling history of Amy's life which I found uninspiring.

Not a Discworld Novel
Revisado: 06-24-14
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Science of Discworld?
I would cut all references to the Discworld because they have no relevance.
Any additional comments?
This book has no relation to Discworld. It very lightly touches on a variety of scientific topics. It would be better suited as a NOVA television program. Bill Bryson’s book, A Short History of Nearly Everything, is a much better choice.
