Historia
Reading is dying in our schools. Educators are familiar with many of the factors that have contributed to the decline—poverty, second-language issues, and the ever-expanding choices of electronic entertainment. In this provocative new book, Kelly Gallagher suggests, however, that it is time to recognize a new and significant contributor to the death of reading: our schools. In Readicide: How Schools Are Killing Reading and What You Can Do About It, Kelly argues that American schools are actively (though unwittingly) furthering the decline of reading.

Every teacher needs to read this book. I’m reading the paperback for one of my classes and bought this to listen in the car on my commute. This narrator sounds like someone asked Nick Offerman to make each sound in the English language and then clipped them together into the narration of this book.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

At last!

Other audiobooks of Dracula are radio dramas loosely inspired by the novel, this is the first one I’ve found that’s the real deal!

Historia
Tom Hiddleston ( The Night Manager) stars as Jonathan Harker, with David Suchet ( Poirot) as Dracula in Liz Lochhead's powerful BBC radio adaptation of the classic novel by Bram Stoker. When solicitor Jonathan Harker sets off for Transylvania to sell the mysterious Count Dracula a Gothic mansion, his bride-to-be, Mina, begs him to stay - to no avail. But on arrival at Dracula's castle, deep in a black forest surrounded by wolves, Harker wishes he had listened to his fiancée.

Growing up, Dracula was one of my favorite books. At first when I hit play I was disappointed because this radio adaption does start before the novel does, but I actually ended up enjoying the extra scenes. A few of my favorite bits were shortened or removed altogether but seeing as this was adapted from the stage play I can understand why they had to be cut. Overall I absolutely loved this. Also Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Harker was amazing, I want to see him do it on the stage.
