Historia
For most of human history the world was a magical and enchanted place ruled by forces beyond our understanding. The rise of science and Descartes's division of mind from world made materialism our ruling paradigm, in the process asking whether our own consciousness—i.e., souls—might be illusions. Now the inexorable rise of technology, with artificial intelligences that surpass our comprehension and control, and the spread of digital metaphors for self-understanding, the core questions of existence urgently require rethinking.

Exploring what it means to be human
Revisado: 06-14-23
Woah! One of the most thought-provoking reads. It's deep and out there but so good. Exploring what it means to be human, the relationship between humans, technology and AI through the lens of religion and spirituality. Think humanity, transhumanism, uploading your mind to the cloud and the singularity... prompting questions about whether machines can possess a soul or consciousness. Aspects of data, patterns and how we are evolving. Highly recommend.

Historia
Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

One of the best books I have ever read.
Revisado: 05-08-23
I loved everything about it, it’s whimsy, brilliance and how the stories were interwoven over centuries. The characters, prose and imagination were marvelous and beautifully written. Highly recommend.
