Makes sense
Revisado: 04-03-25
I enjoyed the series. I didn't expect the ending, but it works IMO. Hints of how it would end were included in several places in the trilogy, and honestly, it's what I want for the characters. So many characters lived with terrible memories and haunted by their pasts, it's kind to wipe the slate clean. It does break your heart a bit, but I like and accept the ending.

Historia
Shari Franke’s childhood was a constant battle for survival. Her mother, Ruby Franke, enforced a severe moral code while maintaining a façade of a picture-perfect family for their wildly popular YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which documented the day-to-day life of raising six children for a staggering 2.5 million subscribers. But a darker truth lurked beneath the surface—Ruby’s wholesome online persona masked a more tyrannical parenting style than anyone could have imagined.

What a journey
Revisado: 01-09-25
This was very vulnerable and raw. Anyone familiar with Ruby's horrid journal entries won't be surprised by any of her actions in the book. It was so frustrating to hear how little her church supported her and how little they did to protect children from Jodi. The idea the church would protect a groomer shouldn't surprise me, but I was furious during that portion. You just want to hug the author and thank her for sharing her journey. I definitely think it has important information for others who have grown up in similar situations only to find themselves with an abuser who fits a pattern. This could provide so much healing for others who experienced the same things.

Historia
The stockings are hanging ready, the sherry and pies are waiting by the fireplace - but where is the jolly fat man with his sack? It's not right to find Death creeping down chimneys and trying to say 'Ho ho ho'—but someone's got to bring the little kiddies their presents. Or else they might stop believing. Belief is important in Discworld, particularly on the last night of the year when the time is turning. If the real man in the red suit isn't found by morning, there won't be a morning. Ever again....

I fee like this book have me permission to stop overcomplicating weight loss and just count calories, eat protein, and lift weights. I've been getting nowhere with IF, reverse dieting, plant based diets, keto, etc. This book makes me feel ok to shut all the noise out and focus on 3 main things.

so confused
Revisado: 12-14-23
it was ok until the whole bit about meat. It makes wild claims about humans not being able to eat meat and cherry-picks various animals like orangutans and elephants as examples. Interestingly never mentioned chimps or bonobos. No science to back it up, just randomly starts denouncing anything other than plant based diets. Very out of left field chapter.

Historia
We know of psychopaths from chilling headlines and stories in the news and movies - from Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy to Hannibal Lecter and Dexter Morgan. As Dr. Kent Kiehl shows, psychopaths can be identified by a checklist of symptoms that includes pathological lying; lack of empathy, guilt, and remorse; grandiose sense of self-worth; manipulation; and failure to accept one’s actions. But why do psychopaths behave the way they do? Is it the result of their environment - how they were raised - or is there a genetic component to their lack of conscience?

Revisado: 09-18-23
very interesting account, but gives the impression the author was not a personal fan of Chaplin. Some parts felt almost judgemental, especially about Chaplin's film work. You can almost hear the author whispering "overrated". Overall, interesting and factual but some of the tone of the author caught me off guard.

Historia
Joe Goldberg is ready for a change. Instead of selling books, he’s writing them. And he’s off to a good start. Glenn Shoddy, an acclaimed literary author, recognizes Joe’s genius and invites him to join a tight-knit writing fellowship at Harvard. Finally, Joe will be in a place where talent matters more than pedigree . . . where intellect is the great equalizer and anything is possible. Even happy endings. Or so he thinks, until he meets his already-published, already-distinguished peers, who all seem to be cut from the same elitist cloth.

God he is frustrating
Revisado: 05-01-23
I can't tell you how many times I screamed at my phone. I stopped multiple times just to vent because he feels so real and authentic. He has to be the most realistic narcissist unreliable narrator that has ever been written. I don't know if I "enjoy" Joe, but I couldn't stop listening either.
