Historia
This is the story of how a nerdy, homeschooled kid in the church choir named John Stephens became the Grammy-winning, platinum-selling, genre-pushing pop star we know as John Legend. For a long time, he led a double life—excelling as a star student while his home life was in shambles, working in corporate America as a financial consultant while moonlighting as a musician in nightclubs, always straddling a line between the person he was and the person he wanted to be. These are his Words + Music.

Couldn't Get Past Chapter 4
Revisado: 01-08-21
From the beginning this audio book rubbed me the wrong way. It took me a minute to realize that the first character that was talking was a female. When there are female main characters in my opinion the story should be narrated by a female. The narrator has a nice, masculine voice but because of that it is hard to listen to him narrate female characters unless he is good at and does different voices. However, I tried to keep it moving until I got to chapter 4 and one of the male character's thoughts were spoken and he immediately began to talk about the female body parts of the main character like she was a piece of meat. Maybe some people like this but at my age it is crass and unnecessary and I'm tired of it. I guess I am just too old for these types of storylines. It saddens me that there are too many novels still being written about young black women with no self-worth who allow themselves to be so mistreated, disrespected and walked allover by some thug life man who doesn't even know his own worth! Yes, one female character was painted in a more positive light but her friend on the other hand falls into the category of one who lost herself. I realize that there are many people in the world like these characters for real, but do we have to always give them the limelight? A good novel doesn't have to be overly sexualized, with polarized illegal activity to be a good book STOP IT! We can and should by now be doing better. Disappointed!

Historia
Zaria Taylor weathers the storms, accepting the bad times as temporary whenever Renard cheats. Deep down inside, Zaria prays the years invested into their relationship will be enough to keep their foundation sturdy. "Do or die" and "till death do us part" are her mottos, though her wedding ring finger is still bare. She makes the mistake of believing him every time he says he will do better, he is sorry, and his heart only belongs to her.

Glad This Was a Free Listen
Revisado: 01-07-21
I couldn't even get past the first chapter before I stopped to re-read the summary to remind myself why I chose it. Then I read some of the reviews which confirmed for me why I was second guessing my choice. However, I tried to give it a second chance and listened to two more chapters and was done. I guess I am just too old for these types of storylines. It saddens me that there are too many novels still being written about young black women with no self-worth who allow themselves to be so mistreated, disrespected and walked allover by some thug life man who doesn't even know his own worth! I realize that there are many people in the world like this for real, but do we have to always give them the limelight? A good novel doesn't have to be overly sexualized, with polarized illegal activity to be a good book and the pettiness STOP IT! We can and should by now be doing better. Disappointed!

Good, but Predictable
Revisado: 01-03-21
The storyline did a good job of making both young male & females out to be extremely petty, vindictive, immature & nieve. I can't give full detail as to why I feel this way because it would spoil it for others. Even though I wasn't impressed someone else may still want to listen to it. The narrator did a horrible job unfortunately; she made a lot of obvious mistakes, stumbled over words and mispronounced some. I have heard other narrators make a mistake or two that are subtle but, she made way too many. Also, don't tease us by adding the word "Saga" in the title and then not follow through the book was copywritten in 2017 3 years is a long time to wait with no part 2 in sight. Is there one in the works?

Historia
The only thing more beautiful than Beyoncé is God, and God is a black woman sipping rosé and drawing a lavender bath, texting her mom, belly laughing in the therapist's office, feeling unloved, being on display, daring to survive. Morgan Parker stands at the intersections of vulnerability and performance, of desire and disgust, of tragedy and excellence. Unrelentingly feminist, tender, and ruthless, these poems are an altar to the complexities of black American womanhood in an age of non-indictments and déjà vu.

Random Thoughts
Revisado: 09-10-20
I don't like giving bad reviews because I know how it feels to be rejected or told you or some you did was not good enough. However; I've listened to spoken word & read poetry often enough to know that there is usually a point or theme to the piece. Unfortunately for this one I feel like she recited all the random thoughts she wrote down in her journal and then tried to pass it off as poetry. I couldn't listen to any of the them in their entirety found myself fast forwarding through to the next one hoping that was a better one then forwarding to the next one again because it wasn't. I'm just disappointed 😞.

Kim Fields has lived most of her life with people thinking they know her, which is understandable. From her first job on a Mrs. Butterworth syrup commercial at age seven, she has spent 40 years in the public eye. There were nine years as Dorothy "Tootie" Ramsey on the classic sitcom The Facts of Life, five more in her 20s starring as Regine Hunter on the seminal coming-of-age show Living Single, and most recently appearing as herself on Real Housewives of Atlanta and Dancing with the Stars.

Kim has always been one of my favorite people & actresses. 💘 her on Facts of Live and Living Single and LOVED both shows. To hear her talk about her life in such an honest and exciting way is wonderful. She narrates her story with such passion you forget its a biography and feel like you are listening to a good Fiction book. Worth the time and money.

It's About Time!
Revisado: 10-24-19
I love the "Family Business" stories and the Duncan family; they are No Joke! However; I've always felt like Rio was treated with kid gloves & not taken seriously so I was excited to see a story focused just on him especially since his twin sister Paris already had a book based on her. I must say this book did not disappoint, Rio showed up & Showed out in his own way & proved not only to himself but; to his family also that YES he is truly a Duncan.

Revisado: 05-29-19
This is a very good book that gives a lot of important information in a well written fictional novel about mental health issues and how they affect not just the individual struggling with it but also the family and friends who are a part of their lives.
